Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 7, 1916.
Application filed May 15, 1915. Serial No. 28,285.
To all whom it may concern:
Leonia, in the county of Bergen, State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in VVindow-Shade Cords, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification.
This invention relates to window shade cords to be used in connection with a nonrattler wedge mounted on same for the prevention of window rattling.
One object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind which may be used in either the upper or lower window sash to prevent rattling. I
Another object is to provide means always at hand for raising or lowering a shade, and such means being equipped with a non-rattling device, ready at all times for use in preventing window rattling.
Another object is to dispense with the usual tassel and provide a more useful and ornamental end to a shade cord. Other objects will appear as the description proceeds.
The invention will be first hereinafter described in connection with the accompanying drawings, which constitute a part of this specification, and then more specifically defined in the claims at the end of the description.
In the accompanying drawings, wherein similar reference characters are used to designate corresponding parts throughout the several views: Figure 1 is an elevation of a shade cord showing my improved device supported in a window shade stick substantially as shown. Fig. 2 is a section through the perforation in the upper edge of the hand piece or wedge. Fig. 3 is an inside elevation of a window frame and sash showing a window shade about half way up, showing my improved shade cord and non-rattler in connection therewith, the shade cord being held at one side and the non-rattler mounted thereon. Fig. 4 is a modification showing my invention in its shorter form.
My improved device consists of a suitable screw eye 1, which is screwed in the shade stick 2. A cord 3 is passed through the loop in said screw eye and tied or knotted as at 4:.
The cord is then passed through a screw eye Be it known that I, ELMA P. KUrrER, 218, at the side of a window frame 9. On the citizen of the United States, residing at i end of said cord 3, is mounted a non-rattler wedge 5, substantially as shown in Fig. 2,
It will thus be seen that I have provided cans for adjusting the position of a winow shade, also provided means for preventg a window shade from rolling up beyond prevented thereby. It will also be noticed that when the window shade 7 is properly at its rightful height, or centrally of the window sash or pulled down to its full length, that my non-rattler can be placed in any desired position of either sash to prevent the lower or-upper sash from rattling.
In the modification shown in Fig. 4, I have shown my device in shorter form and by dotted lines and how same may be inserted between a window sash and frame to prevent window rattling, and while I have shownv my non-rattler wedge as plain, I do not wish to be restricted in this respect for I may decide to make my non-rattler wedge ornamental so that when viewed from the outside same will present a more artistic appearance. At present, though, I have carried the cord to the side of a window frame and it will be noted that the non-rattler wedge cannot be seen from the outside.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is 1. A device of the character described comprising a cord to be attached to a window shade for raising and lowering the same, and a handle on the free end of the cord, said handle being of such construction as to be also useful for insertion between a window sash and bead as an anti-rattler.
2. The combination with a window frame and sash, of a roller shade operatively mounted thereon, a cord depending from the lower end of the shade for raising and lowering the same, a confining loop for the cord fastened to the side of the window frame, said cord being passed loosely through said loop so as to have free passage therein at all times, and a wedge "a distance desired, for when the non-rattler v wedge 5 comes in contact with the screw eye 8, the unrolling of the window shade will be shaped block, larger than the passage is not raised to its fullest extent, the loop through the loop, attached to the free end on the side of the Window frame holding portion of the cord and cooperating With said block in convenient position for that 1;;
the loop to form astop for limiting the rollaurpose.
' ing up of the shade, said block also serving In testimony whereof I have signed my as an anti-rattler plug for insertion between name to this specification. the Window sash and frame when the shade ELMA P. KUPFER.
