IMPROVEMENT IN CURTAIN-FIXTURES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 204,858, dated June 11, 1878; application filed March 23, 1878.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES W. 82mm, of Flint, in the county of Genesee and State of Michigan, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Curtain-Fixtures; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.

' Figure 1 of the drawings is a front view of a curtain with my curtain-fixture as applied, and Fig. 2 is a detail sectional view thereof.

The nature of this invention relates to ourtain-fixtures for manipulating curtains which roll up from the bottom.

It consists in providing slotted pivoted hangers, which serve as bearings for pulleys which carry the curtain-cord. By means of the slots the pulleys are readily removed, and this liberates the curtain cord and roller at will for cleaning or other purposes. Being loosely pivoted, the hangers have sufficient lateral play to accommodate slight variations in width of curtain or length of roller, and to compensate for the position of the cord in the spool, allowing the said cord to wind to the right or left, but confining it to a nearly vertical position.

As heretofore constructed, fixtures of this description have had the cords passed through eyebolts, covered pulleys, or the like, and these devices have held arbitrary positions, not being capable of any deviation to accommodate slight changes in measurement. In such constructions the curtains could not be removed without displacing the holding device, and after such displacement the device would still be hung on the cord, and could only be removed over the ends, which necessitated further displacement.

In my device it is only necessary to lift the pulleys out of the slots in the hangers, and this entirely releases the curtain-cord.

In my device great nicety in hanging the end brackets is not necessary, as, being loosely pivoted, they have sufficient lateral play to compensate for slight misplacement, as Well as to accommodate the windings of the cord in the spools.

Referring to the drawings, A represents the top part of a window-frame, or a strip secured to the same, and to this strip the curtain B is tacked or otherwise secured, in such a manner as to be readily and easily removed. The lower end of this curtain is provided with a roller, 0.

At each end of the strip A, beyond the limit of the width of the curtain, is loosely suspended a pivoted hanger, D, slotted diagonally, as at d, in which is mounted a pulley, a; and in the center of the strip Ais secured, above the top of the curtain, a double casting, E, forming a slotted hanger, E, at each side to receive pulleys b I).

My spool is composed of plate F F, having an open center, and this plate is provided with a recess, f, to receive the knotted end of the cord, and fits against the end of the roller.

F is the outer flange of the spool, having a stem, d, shoulder e, and screw f. This screw is passed through the open center of the plate F and forced into the end of the roller.

The end of the cord h is passed through the plate F and placed in the recess f, the plate F placed against the end of the roller, and the piece F d f, when screwed into the roller, not only holds the end of the cord, but the whole forms a desirable spool upon which to wind the cord and an ornamental end to the roller. The cord h then passes up over the pulley a, inward around the pulley b, and then downward, forming a loop or end, upon which is hung a weighted tassel, G. The same arrangement is placed on the opposite side, and the curtain-fixture is in position for operation. The further operation of my device is obvious.

I claim as my invention- The pivoted slotted hangers D d E, in combination with a curtain-roller, cord h, and weighted tassel G, as and for the purposes specified.
