IMPROVEMENT IN CURTAIN-FIXTURES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 175,349, dated March 28, 1876; application filed January 22, 1876.

To all whomit may concern Be it known that I, MICHAEL HAUGHEY, of St. Louis, in the county of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented a new and Improved Curtain-Fixture, of which the following is a specification:

In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a front elevation, with part cut out, of my improved curtain-fixture Fig. 2, a top View of the same, and Fig. 3 a detail view of the roller-ratchet and pawl for retaining the curtain at any height.

My invention relates to an improved ourtain-fixture that is made without the use of springs, in simple manner, so as to be not liable to get out of order, while admitting the easy repairing of the worn-out parts.

The invention consists of a curtain-roller to which a weighted band is applied, that raises the curtain, while a weighted pawl, locking into a ratchet of the roller-shaft, secures the curtain at any height.

In the drawing, A represents a curtain-roller, whose shaft a turns in supporting end brackets B. One bracket, B, is made with an open slot to remove the roller when required, the other bracket being centrally perforated and cast with a front extension, B, to which a pawl, G, is fulcrumed, whose rear end is Weighted and guided by a hook-extension, 0', along the bracket B, while the front end is provided with a cord and tassel, C by which the weighted pawl may be readily raised. The shaft to of the roller is fitted into the bracket B, and provided with a ratchet-wheel, D, that is engaged by the weighted pawl O. A band or string, E, is applied between guideilanges b of the roller end, passed over a guideroller, d, and weighted at the lower end, the weight sliding in a detachable casing, 1*, or in a suitable cavity of the frame. The band is wound upon the roller by the lowering of the curtain, and the weight raised at the same time, the weighted pawl looking at any moment into the ratchet of the roller, so as to retain the curtain at any desired point. When the pawl is released by pulling its cord and tassel, the weight causes the unwinding of the band, and thereby the instant winding up of the curtain on the roller. The curtain may be guided and retained by rings or eyes 0 on guide strings or rods f at one or both sides of the window, so as to admit of the steady position and retention of the curtain at any height. By dropping the pawl the curtain may be set to the exact' point required, the parts being all so arranged as not to get out of order, and admit of easy repairs when any one of the bands or strings is worn out. I

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with a curtain-roller, of the weighted band, weighted pawl, and the ratchet of roller-shaft, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
