useful Improvements in Curtain-Fixtures and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same,

reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved curtain fixture. Fig. 2 is an end view of the same, showing one of the brackets, with its hinged lever-catch. Fig. 3 is a detail view of one of the roller-journals. Fig. 4 is a detail view of the lever-catch, and Fig. 5 is a sectional view through the notched end of the roller-spool.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

My invention has relation to that class of curtain-fixtures in which the roller is hung in bearings, one of which is provided with a pivoted drop or catch adapted to engage slots or notches in the roller-j ournal, and,so arranged that it may be lifted out of contact with the said slots or notches by means of the hoistingcord; and my improvement consists in the detailed construction and combination of parts of the several operating devices of a curtainfixture of that class, as hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.

In the accompanying drawings, A is the shade or curtain, and B is the roller for the same, which is hung in the brackets, one of which is shown at O. E is the roller-spool, around which the hoisting-cord F is wound in the usual manner. The projecting end of the spool E (shown at G) is journaled in an aperture, c, in the bracket 0, and has two or more grooves or notches. (Shown at 9.) Upon aprojecting part or lip, h, of bracket 0 is pivoted the catch-lever H, which is curved, as shown in Fig. 4 of the drawings, and provided at its lower bent end with an eye or slot, '5, for the insertion of the hoisting-cord F. The upper hinged part of catch H has one or more teeth or projections, I, which are adapted to engage the slots or grooves gin the spool-journal G.

When it is desired to raise or lower the curtain, the cord F is drawn outwardly from the same, as indicated by the dotted lines in the drawings, so as to lift and thereby disengage the teeth I of catch H from the grooved spooljournal G. After the curtain has been raised or lowered to its proper position it is held there by simply letting go of the cord, when the catch-lever H will, of its own gravity, drop back into its former position, so as to engage one of the grooves g of the spool-j ournal G,.and thereby lock the roller in its position.

I am well aware that the combination with the spool-j ournal of the pivoted drop or catch adapted to engage the spooljournal is not new; neither do I claim this construction and combination, broadly; but most of the devices of that class with which I am acquainted are objectionable because they are complicated, which makes them not only expensive, but causes them to get readily out of order. The only way in which my improved fixture could fail to operate would be by the end of spool E binding against the pivoted catch-lever H, so that the same could not readily be lifted out of or dropped back into its locked position; and in order to prevent this I provide the bracket 0, upon which catch H is pivoted, with an inwardly-projecting stud, 6, against which the outer disk of the spool will bear, so as to leave room enough between this and bracket 0 to permit catch H free play up or down.

Having thus described my improvement, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United Statesi The combination, in a curtain-fixture of the described class, of the bracket 0, having the inwardly-projecting stud e, pivoted catchlever or drop H, having teeth I, and slot z, spool E, having notched or grooved journal G, and roller B, constructed and combined in,

the manner and for the purpose herein shown and specified.
