BLIND'VE'R;
nasca To all whom #may concern;
Be itknown lthat I, RisuoN 1j. Moena. a citizen' of the` V.United States, residing at Ardmore, in the Ycounty of- Carter and State l of Okl'ahoma,. have invented: anew and useful Blinder, of which the' following is a specification. j
, The device forming the subject matter of this application is adapted to be employed for connecting la blinder detachably with a heacl stall, it being a matterof common knowledge that different conditionsas to light or darkness, the nature or disposition ofthe animal being driven, and many other v considerations frequently make; the` attach-- f ment of blinders to a heads talland the detachment of .blindersA therefroml necessary.
vThe invention aims to provide a novel means whereby, without causing excessive mutilations either in the blinder or the 'head stall, and without rendering either of these elements objectionable as to appearance, the blinder may be attached readily to a head stall-and with equal facility be detached therefrom.
It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of th-at type to which the present invention appertains. f Y
With theabove and other'objects in view rwhich will appear as the vdescription proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being` understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without cleparting from the spirit of the invention.
' In the'accompanying drawing: Figure 1 *v shows the invention inside elevation; Fig.V 2 is a section on the line .2-2 of Flg. 1'; Fig. 3 shows the invention in side elevation; Flg.
4 Vis a fragmental plan, wherein parts are broken away; Fig. 5 is a fragmental section showing a modification. y
In the accompanying drawings, the numeral 1 indicates the cheek strap of ka head stall, the numeral 2 denoting the head strap these parts frequently being connected by means of a buckle 3. The blinder is shown at 4 and the blinder stay appears at Y 5, all these parts being common and well known in the art, saving as hereinafter modified.
VMounted upon the cheek strap 1 is ar boxspciaeatioii of Leftfersrarenf; Patented Febg, i916# l Application mea June as, 1915. i serial No. 36,807;
like casing 6 which may be held in place by means. of rivets l7 or other securing elements, the casing-.f6 being provided within its contour withrprojections 8 which may be rivets. VMounted on the outer face of the casing is an eye 9 through which the end ofthe head strap 2 may be thrust. In the side walls of the casing 6 opposed openings l0 and llare fashioned.
They Vbinder 4 preferably comprises cooperating parts or layers 12 united prererably `by means ofstitching 14 or otherwise. Between the parts'12 ofthe blinder 4 is resilient lockingvv member 15l of U-shape and comprising arms 18. The; resilient lil-shaped locking. member is heldin place between thel parts' 12of the blinder by umeans of stitchingsV 16. It is to be observed that the stitchingiindica-tedat 16' terminates at a Vdistance from the inner edge 17 of the blinder 4, to the end that the arms 18 of the resilient locking member 15 may be pressed toward each other, these arms normally tending to expand and to move away from each other, the blinder, as clearly shown in Fig. 2, being hollow, so as to permit the hereinbefore mentioned movement of the arms 18 toward and away from each other.
The arms 18 of the resilient U-shaped locking member 15 pass through the openings 10 in the casing 6 and through the openings V11 therein, the arms being provided intermediate their ends with seats 19 which coact with the projections 8. The extremities of the arms 18 project beyond the rear edge ofthe casing 3 so as to form finger pieces 20. y
In practical operation, referring particularly to Fig. 4, it will be observed that the arms 18 may be pinched together by means of the linger pieces 2O and 'thusv theseats 19 e may be disengaged from the projections 8.
Thereupon the arms18 may be pulled out` of the casing 6, the blinder 4 thus being detached from the head stall by a'simple operation, and without the use of tools.
In Fig. 5, a slight modification of the invention is shown. One wall of the casing on lthe cheek strap is shown at 21 and an opening 22 appears therein, the same corresponding to one of the openings 11 of Fig. 4. v
The numeral 23 designates one of the spring arms of the locking member, the same having a vseat 24, thevnger piece appearing at 25. In this form of the invention, the projections 8 of Fig. 4 are discopies of this patent may be o'btaivnei for pensed Awith, tbe seat 24 in armmQS being received, as shown at 26 by the Wall 21 of the casing, at the edge' of the opening 22. The part 26 of the casing, thereforelike theV 5 elementB of Fig. r-jmay be described as a projection on the head stall, Wlierevvith theV spring arm of the locking member is adapted to engage. n e Y Having thus described the invention, what 0 is claimed is:'- v- 1-. In a device ofv the class described, a blinder; a'pair Osprin'giarms carriedby the blinder and projecting in approximate parallelism beyond one edge of the blinder, the arms being located in a plane approximately parallel to the plane defined by the l blinder, the arms being yieldable toward and away from each other, in a plane approximately parallel to the plane deiined by the blinder; and head stall carried means Where- With theprojecting portionsof the arms are detacbably interlocked. Y A 42. Ina device of the class described, a head stall having projections,y a blinder;
blinder, the spring arms being detachably and compressible spring arms on ther 'projections,` the arms being extended beyond the projections to form linger pieces whereby the arms may be. compressed. Y'
