;P A: IENT OFFICE,
GEORGE A. BRIGGS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
LINK RING.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE A. BRIGGS, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Link Rings, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to connecting-link rings of the type commonly employed on the ends of watch-fobs, chatelaines and chains for detachably connecting thereto a watch, locket or similar device.
The object of the invention is to produce a hinged ring of said class provided with a spring latch for securing the abutting ends of the section.
Another object thereof is to provide a spring snap latch adapted to secure the abutting ends of the hinged sections of the ring against accidental displacement, and to facilitate the ready unlatching and separation of the parts when desired, and a further object thereof is to provide an attaching eye upon the shank of the spring latch whereby the pull of a depending weight tends to secure the latch against unlocking.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a more simple, cheap and efficient article of said class than has heretofore been produced.
To these ends, my invention includes the combinations and arrangements of component parts to be hereinafter described and more particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, in which like reference characters indicate similar parts, Figure 1 is a perspective View of my invention, showing the ring closed; Fig. 2 is a similar view opened, and Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view of my ring and latch.
My invention includes, generally, a ring comprising two sections suitably hinged together, the opposite ends of said sections being hollowed to form sockets, a spring latch secured in one of the adjacent sockets having a barb at the free end thereof adapted to be engaged in the opposite socket, and an eyelet secured upon the shank of the spring intermediate of its ends by which it may be attached to a chain or pendant, and adapted to hold the latch against disengagement Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed November 22, 1910.

by its weight, and to be used as a thumb piece for unlocking when desired.
*teferring now to the drawings, 1 indicates a link ring, comprising the sections 2 and 3 which are hinged at 4: to permit their opening for attachment to a chain or pendant.
The opposite adjacent ends of the sections are hollowed longitudinally to form the sockets 5 and 6 for the reception of the latch by which they are separably united. Said latch comprises the spring 7 which is secured in one socket 5 and is provided at its free end with the barb 8 on the outer side thereof extending beyond the end of the socket in which it is secured and adapted to project into the socket 6 on the opposite section when brought together in contact.
The outer wall of the socket 6 is slotted at- 9 at a position to receive and form a keeper for the barb 8 when the adjacent ends of the sections abut, in which position it is normally held by the act-ion of spring shank 7.
For the purpose of providing further security against accidental unlatching, I provide an eye 10 upon the outside of the shank of the spring 7 which projects through a slot in the wall of the socket 7, by which eye the ring may be attached for suspension as a pendant, or by which a pendant may be attached to the ring, and it will be apparent the pull of such weight tends to secure the barb 8 in the slot or keeper 9 to prevent the opening of the ring 1.
When it is desired to open the latch and separate the sections of the ring, the eye 10 may be conveniently used as a thumb piece to depress the spring and dlsengage the barb 8.
Having thus described my mvention what I claim as new, and desire to be secured by Letters Patent, isa 1. A link ring comprising abuttinghingcd sections, a spring latch for locking the abutting ends of said sections together, and means secured on said latch by which said ring is adapted to be suspended and by the tension of such suspension adapted to hold said latch in operative position, substantially as described.
2. Alink ring comprising abutting hinged sections, a barbed spring latch secured on closed by the tension of suspension, substanthe abutting end of one section, a keeper on tially as described.
the opposite section ada ted to receive the barbed latch, and an ey e secured on said GEORGE BRIGGS latch intermediate of its ends said ring be- Witnesses:
ing adapted to be suspended thereby and ALBERT WARD,
said eye adapted to normally hold said latch H. J. FINLEY.
