"Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 2a, 1916.
Application filed August a, 1914. Serial no. 854,856.
To all whom it may conoem:
Be it known that I, CLARENCE W. T1101:- NILEY, a citizen of the United States,--residing at Electra, in the county of Wichita, State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in TableAttachments for'Beds; and I do hereby declare the following t be a. full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable. others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and usethe. same.
This invention relates to table attach;
ments for beds and is particularly designed as an improvement on the attachment covered by United States Patent No. 1,096,327 granted to me May 12, 1914. 2
The object of the invention resides in th provision of anattachment of the character named in which the table element can be adjusted with ease and facility in various tachment for beds constructed in accordance .with the invention; Fig. 2, a plan new of a fragment of what is shown in Fig. 1; Fig. 3, a bottom view of what is shown in Fig. 2;
Fig. 4, a section on the line 44 of Fig. 3; Fig. 5, a-section on the line '55 of Fig. 3,"
and Fig. 6, a perspective view of the outer section of one of the arms of the castlng which supports the table slab. Fig. 7 is a section on the line 7--7 of Fig. 1. Fig. 8 is a section on the line 8-8 of Fig. 7;
- Referringto the drawings, 10 indicates the bed post to which is attached the present invention, comprising a tube 14 perforated at intervals of its length, which perforations are designed to interchangeably receive set screws 14 that are, engaged in sleeves 13 disposed over the ends of the tube 14. When the set screws'are loosened the sleeves may be adjusted the length of the tube 14 and when the set screws are tightened the sleeves are held positively against rotation with respect thereto.
Extending from each of the sleeves. 13 is a aw 12 which in connection with a second aw 12 is designed to engage about the post 10 of the bedstead, the stance being connected to the base portion of the jaw 12 through the medium of a screw 11- so that the jaws may be clamped onto the bed post. Slidably and rotatably mounted on the rod 14 is a sleeve 15 which is adapted to be held against rotation and sliding movement by a binding screw 16 mounted in said sleeve and adapted to impinge against the rod 14. .Rotatably mounted on the rod 14 above the sleeve 15 is a sleeve 17 which has formed integral therewith a lateral arm 18. The sleeve 17 carries albinding screw 19 whereby same may be locked against rotation on 'the rod 14 to secure the arm 18 in a desired adjustment. The end of ,the arm 18,
remote from' the rod 14 is provided with a head 20 in which is'formed a socket for receiving a lateral projection 21 on one end of an arm 22. A set screw 23 is carried by the head 20 for engaging the lateral projections 21 so as to hold the arm 22 againstv swinging movement.
Slidably and rotatably mounted upon the arm 22 is a sleeve 24 in which is disposed a set screw 36 adapted to impinge against the arm 22 to ,hold the sleeve 24 against sliding and rotative movement on the rod 22. The sleeve 24 is provided with a recess 26 in which is rotatably mounted a casting 27 having a plurality of radial arms 29. The outer end of each arm is ofi'set and threadedas at 31 and engagedon each threaded outer end 31 is an L-shaped member 32 one arm of which is extended laterally on each side and has each lateral extension bent inwardly to form sockets 33 for receiving the corner portions of a table slab 34. Engaged on each threaded portion 31 is a nut 35 through the instrumentality of which the member 32 is clamped to the arm bly adjustable on the rod, a casting rotatasaid sockets, and means for locking the 10 bly adjustable on the sleeve, arms radiat- L-shaped members against disengagement ing from said casting, each of said arms from the arm.
