scriptio-n, such as will enable others skilled,
in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which The figure represents a detail view in perspective ofmy improved electric lamp bracket.
This invention relates toa new and'useful improvement in electric lamp brackets, the object being to construct a device of the character described which is simple, cheap,
and one which is portable, enabling the lamp to be supported by a stand or upon a bed such as is commonly used in hospitals, hotels, and the like.
In the drawings, 1 Indicates the portable member of a lamp stand, thenupper. end of which is provided with a: cross-piece 2 having knobs at each end. It is obvious that this cross-piece might represent the horizontal member of a'so-called iron or brass bed, and the vertical rod of the stand, one of the vertical membersof the head'or foot of the bed:
3 indicates a bracket member whose upper end is bent to engage the horizontal member of the stand or bed as the, case may be, the vertical leg of said bracket extending down and having removably secured thereto a U shaped clip 4-. This clip should extend out sufliciently to center in the arch of, the bent upper end, whereby to hold the bracket member vertical. This clip is held in posi norrb a screw, thus enabling different sized slips or U-shaped members to be used on the bracket member depending upon the diameter of the horizontal member of the bed and the size of the vertical rod with which the clip cooperates. The lamp is placedin position on a bed or stand by simply hooking the bent end of the bracket.
over a horizontal member, and engaging the clip with a vertical rod, thus dispensing with the-use of any thumb screws or clamps.
5 indicates-a post mounted in the lower; end of the bracket by means of a screw whereby the same may be rotatably adjusted. .The outer end of this post forms a hinge member 6 in which a cooperating hinge member 7 is arranged, these two hinge members being held together by a pintle screw 8 whereby the lamp may be adjusted at any angle inwardly and outwardly with respect to the bracket.
9 is the socket member'of the lamp into which the wires 10 lead, the usual socket switch being controlled by a pull cord 11".
. 12 is a globe of the lamp.
It Will be seen that the device is portable and 'canbe carried from place to place, the wires terminating in a plug whereby it may be'connec'ted to the line circuit quickly and easily, It is especially adapted for hospital use and may be arranged on a bed or on a stand as desired, being. placed in 'position by a simple operation not necessitating the manipulation of any screws or clamps.
What I claim is:
1. An electric lamp bracket comprising a hooked member adapted to engage a hori zonta'lly disposed'support and having means for engaging v a vertical member whereby the bracket is prevented from lateral move- .sPect to the bracket.
3. A portablela-mp bracket comprising. 2' hooked member having a U-shaped clip 'movably secured therein, a post rotai'abiy mounted therein, anda lamp hinged to the. outer end of said post.
' In testimony whereof I hereunto aiiix my signature in the presence 01 two Witnesses, this 5th day of March 1914;.
JOSEPH 'ormssarne.
