BARNHART, a citizen 'if the United States, residing,r at (lui-ay. county oic (luray, and State of Colorado. have invented certain new'and useful Improvements in Portable Elcctroliers; and I do declare the following' to be a ulh clear, and exact description oi the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which'it appertains to malte and use the accompanyine; drawings` and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which Aform a part ot this' specification.
My invention relates to improvements in portable electroliers, or movable electric lamps` My object is to provide a device lof this character which. while electrically connect-` ed with a stationary' device atthe center of the room for instance, may be moved to any position on a-ny wall of the room, thus makin;y it practicable to have the electrolier conveniently located for illumination in any desired position.
As illustrated in the drawing it .may be assumed that the electric wires are connected with or lead Jfrom a Isuitable attachment ceiling` ot the room and prei erably in the center thereof. These wires, preferably in the form ot a coil lead to a tubular arm whose upper extremity is flattened and shaped to form a hook adapted to conform to the general shape of the picture The wires pass downwardly from this arm and through a 'larger `ered a section taken on arm arranged in telescopic relation with the first named arm, the. two arms beine; arranged for vertical adjustment by means of a set screw. To the lower extremity of the larger arm a casing is attached through which the electric conductors pass. theconductors being looped around a pulley below the said casing, the pulley being mounted upon a weight of suitable mass to maintain tubes. The extremities of the conductors refrom the ceiling attachment, pass `out of the lsaid casing through a pipeand are connected eleetrically with the socket of the lamp. Having briefiy outlined my improved construction I will proceed to describe the same in detail. reference beingr made to the accompanying' drawing in which is illustrated an embodiment thereof.
In this drawing, Figure 1, is a side eleva tion of my improved portableelectrolier, illustrating the saine in use, the wall of the room where the device' is located being shown in section. Fig. 2, is a.' view taken at right angles to Fig. 1, and may beconsidthe line 2-2, Fig. l, looking toward the left. Fig. 3, is a sectional view taken through the upperportion of the upper telescop'ing member shown on'a larger `scale. Fig'. 4. is a similar section taken through the lower part of the lower telescopinp; member, the casing connected therewith and the weight. the` parts also beingr shown on a larger scale.

Let the numerals 5 and 6 designate two tubular members arranged in telescopic relation. the member being the smaller in diameter and arranged to slide freely within the member 6, the two members beine' connected by means of a set screw 7, whereby their length may be regulated at will. The upper extremity of. the tubular member is flattened and bent to the proper curvature to form a hook 8, which fits the picture molding 9, of the wall 10, of a room. To the lower extremity of the-tubular member G. is secured a casing 12, which basan opening 13, at the top Where it is connected with the lower extremity ot' the tube 6. lThis casing also has an opening 14, in the bottom thereof. in' which is inserted an insulating sleeve 15. The easingl 12, is also provided on its front wall with an opening 16, and a nut 17, is mounted on this wall in such position that its opening registers with .the opening 1G. Into this nut is screwed the threaded extremity 18. ot' apipe Y19, upon the outer extremity ot' which is mounted the Asocket 20, of an incandescent lamp'Ql.

' up or down upon th The electrical conductors 25, by means of which the lamp is supplied with current lead from any suitable location 4as the center of a room where they are preferably connccted with a rosette or other device permittingthe necessary current supply. These conductors pass through the opening 22, in the tube 5, thence downwardly through the two tubes, through the casing 12, and out through the opening 14, in the bottom thereof, and are formed into a loop 26, passing around a pulley 27, journaled on a pin 28, mounted on the upper part of the weight 29. The conductors pass upwardly from the pulley into the casing 1 2, and out through the thence to the socket 20, where y are properly connected for supplying the lamp 21.
From the foregoing description the use and operation of my improved portable elec trolier will be readily understood. The device may be attached'to the icture molding on any wall of the room an may be movedfrom one position vto another as often as is necessary, or as often as the convenience of the user or users,maygrequire. is readily adjustable vertically by loosening the set screw 7, and moving the tube 6, either e tube 5, and during the adjustment the weight 29,' will maintain the conductors in the properly taut condition to prevent undue wear or rubbing upon each other or undue friction with any part of the structure, since the pulley 27, will turn freely on or with the pin 28, as may be desired.
Having thus described my invention what l claim is:
1. A portable electrolier comprising ahook adapt/ed to be suspended from the ordinary icture molding, a tubular memberdepending vertically from said hook, a hollow element attached to the lower extremity of the tubular` member', said element havin a flat surface forengagement with the wal of the room, a lamp bracket extending outwardly The lamp.

An electrolier comprising .two tubular members adjustably connected in telescopic relation and having a lamp mounted near the lower extremity of the lowermost member when in position for use, the lower member being open at the bottom, electrical conductors passing through the tubes upd forming a loop below the lower extremity ofthe lower tubeand passing thence to the lamp, and a weight carrying a roller engaging the said loop in running relation, substantially as described.
