To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY S. HOLGOMB, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bath, in the county of Steuben and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sanitary and Economical Paste-Cups for Cigar-Makers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to an improvement on my patent No. 597 ,184 issued to me J anuary 11, 1898, for paste cups for cigar makers, and one of the principal objects of the invention is to provide a paste cup in which the parts may be readily removed from the paste cup or container for cleaning.
Paste cups of ordinary construction used in cigar factories, are very liable to collect dirt, dust and small particles of tobacco and become very unsanitary, and in my original patent I disclose a paste cup having a cover and feeding device for the same to keep the air and flying products around the factory from contact with the paste, but a device of this kind has been extremely difficult to clean, owing to the fact that the container and the cone within the container were immovable and for this reason could not be properly cleaned to advantage.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a paste cup which will be thoroughly sanitary, owing to the fact that each part can be removed and separately cleaned.
The foregoing and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure l is a vertical section and partial elevation of a sanitary paste cup made in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a top plan View of the same, and Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the cone removed from the paste container or cup.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates the paste container or cup comprising a plain cylindrical cup or container having a solid bottom 2 and an open top 3, said cup being of equaldiameter from end to end.
Mounted in the cup and removable therefrom is ahollow cone 4, said cone being a trifle smaller in diameter at its base than the container 1, and being adapted to fit loosely within the container 1, its base resting on the bottom of the container 1. The feeding device 5 is also hollow and its side walls conform substantially to the inclined walls of the cone 4, and at the bottom of the feedingdevice 5 is a cylindrical flange 6 which flts snugly and is permitted to slide within the cup 1 thus forcing the paste between the cone 4 and the feeder 5 up through the opening in the finger cup 7. The finger cup 7 flares outwardly and is provided with a cover 8 which is hinged to the finger cup 7 by a staple 9 or other means so it may be easily opened or closed.
From the foregoing it will be readily understood that the feeder 5 and the cone 4: may be removed from the container 1 for cleaning whenever desired, and that the paste between the cone 4 and the feeder 5 may be fed through the top or finger cup 7 by pressing downward upon the feeder 5. The cover 8 is usually kept closed when the paste is not in use, and thus the paste is kept in a sanitary condition, and is not dried up and wasted.
The cost of paste in a large factory is quite considerable, and this device is designed to not only save the paste but to render it more sanitary in use and to keep dust, dirt and flying particles out of the paste cup.
Various changes in the details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the claim.
What is claimed is A paste cup for cigar makers comprising a cylindrical cup'member, having a flat bottom and fully open at its upper end, a hollow conical feeding member slidably mounted in the cup member, an annular flange depending from the base of the feeding member, said flange engaging the inner surface of the side wall of the said cup member to prevent the feeding member from being tilted with relation to the cup member, a finger cup carried by and communicating with the apex of the feeding member, and a conical plunger removably mounted within the cup member, said plunger resting upon the bottom and having the diameter of its base smaller than the diameter of the cup member to permit of its being readily removed and shifted laterally with relation to the cup member by and on the insertion of the feeding member in the cup member to proper position the plunger With relation to the feeding member.
