1N0 Model.
H S HOLOOMB PASTE CUP FOR CIGAR MAKERS.
No. 597,184. Patented Jan. 11,1898.
UNITED STATES PATENT EEicE.
'I-IENRY S. I-IOLCOMB, OF BATH, NEW YORK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 597,184, dated January 11, 1898.
Application filed May 21, 1897- Serial No. 637,557. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY S. HOLCOMB, of
Bath, in the county of Steuben and State of NewYork, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paste-Cups for Cigar- Makers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in paste-cups for cigar-makers use, the object of the same being to provide a novel structure of cup of this character which will keep the paste clean and prevent the same from becoming dry by evaporation and also feed the paste to the finger-cup when said cup is depressed and thin or soften the paste during said feeding, so as to prevent the formation of lumps.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel constructions and combinations of parts hereinafter more fully described, and specifically set forth in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings, illustrating the invention, Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of the paste-cup, and Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of the cover member of the cup.
Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawings, the letterA designates the paste-cup, which in the present instance is cylindrical and provided withan inwardlyextending cone-shaped bottom b. The cover G of the cup, which is constructed independently thereof, is cone-shaped and provided at its lower end with a circumferential flange d, which is adapted to olosel y fit the interior wall of the cup, as shown. The cover is provided at its upper end with a flaring finger-cup e, through which the paste is adapted to exude and from which it is removed by the finger of the operator for use. The paste-cup is filled with paste. and the cover then inserted and pressed down until the paste is forced up into the finger-cup and is forced downward to feed fresh paste to the cup, as required. The
small'amount of paste in the finger-cup and the close fitting of the cover prevents evaporation and drying out of the paste by preventing the aooess of air thereto, as well as the entrance of dust or dirt, and thus the paste is kept in good condition.
The finger-cup may be provided, if desired, with a cap or cover f for closing it when the paste-cup is not in use. The continued pressure of the cover, as before stated, downward within the cup causes the paste to be forced up into the finger-cup, and the provision of the inwardly-extending cone-shaped bottom of the cup insures that during this pressing operation the paste will be worked between the inner side of the cover and the said coneshaped bottom and the formation of lumps prevented, so that the paste fed to the fingercup will be thin and smooth in texture.
My invention provides a simple and inexpensive construction of paste-cup of the character described, which effectually prevents the entrance of dust and dirt and drying out of the paste by evaporation, and this results in a considerable saving in paste in factories where a large number of hands are employed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A paste-cup for cigar-makers use consisting of a cup member provided with an inwardly-projectin g cone-shaped bottom, and a cone-shaped cover member sliding in the cup and provided with a finger-cu p through which the paste feeds, substantially as described.
2. A paste-cup for cigar-makers use consisting of a cup member having an open coneshaped bottom open at the top and provided with an inwardly-projecting cone-shaped bottom, and a flaring or cone-shaped cup member provided at its bottom with a flange and at the top with a flaring finger-cup, said cup being adapted to slide in the open top of the cup member and coacting with the coneshaped bottom thereof, substantially as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HENRY S. IIOLOOMB.
