Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed November 23, 1914. Serial No. 873,428.
To all whom it may concern Be, it known that I, CHARLES J. THoRP, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Detroit, in the county of lVayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Artificial Tooth-Crowns, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to an artificial tooth crown and has for its object a tooth crown of composite metal of gold and silver.
Reference will now be had to the drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a plan of a composite plate produced for artificial tooth crowns; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same; Fig. 3 is a plan of a disk cut and stamped from the plate shown in Figs. 1 and 2; and Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional View of a tooth crown or shell produced by stamping and cupping the disk shown in Fig. 3.
A sheet of gold is placed upon a sheet of silver, the metallic sheets being designated 1 and 2 respectively. The sheets are subjected to the action of heat and then to a rolling action with sufiicient pressure brought to bear to make the gold and silver sheets practically integral.
From the composite plate or sheet thus produced one or more disks 3 can be cut and stamped and then the disk projected to the action of dies or forming members whereby the disk is cupped to form a crown or shell 4 having a silver lining.
By my improvement the silver which forms a lining of the crown or shell prevents the mercury in amalgam from affecting the gold of the crown or shell, consequently the longevity of a crown in accordance with my invention is materially increased. Furthermore the grinding surface or bicuspid of the crown or shell can be easily renewed if worn. These and many other advantages are gained by combining gold and silver as above set forth. and while in the drawing there has been illustrated a blank crown or shell, it is to be understood that the shell can be shaped or swaged to fit various organs.
What I claim is As a new article of manufacture, a tooth crown of composite metal of gold and silver.
