y JOHN EDWARD r'oHNsoN, or 'Roncnvnnrn,]wnsrvrnenvra.
To all whom t may concern: v l
Be it known that I, JOHN EDWARD ,JOHN- sox, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ron'ceverte, in thecounty of Greenbrier, State of "West Virginia, have invented a new and useful Hat, Coat, or Baggage Check; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of theinvention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to makeand use the same.
A This invention relates to a hat, coat, or-
baggage check, and an object of the 1nven tion is to provide a device of this character consisting of two parts, one part acting asa holder for the other part and provided with a clamp` to secure the part to the article or commodity that is being checked.
In practical i'ields the details of construe* tion may necessitate alterations, falling within the scope of what is claimed.
The invention comprises further features and combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth, shown in the dra-wings and claimed.
In the drawingszvFigure 1 is a' view in perspective of the improved hat, coat, or
baggage check. Fig. 2 is a view front elevation of the check. Fig. 3 1s a view 1n i rear elevation. Fig. et is a sectional view on line fet-i of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is asectional view on line 5 5 of Fig. 3. Fig. 6 isa view in front `elevation of the part of the check that ,constitutes a holder for the other part.
Referring` more especiallyV to the drawings, 1 and 2 designate the two parts which may be lany suitable contour or configuration) of the check. However, in the present instance, the parts are circular or diskshaped, and upon onev face of eachof the parts the number of the check is provided. As will be noted the numbers correspond in denomination. The part 2 (which is given to the person who is checking the article or the like) is supplied,upon the face having the'number, with an annular grooveB, substantially semi-circular 1n cross section. The part 1 adJacent its lower edge 1s provided with a lug 4e bent laterally and upwardly to' contact with the lower edge of the part 2 and overlie the front face of said part 2` to assist in preventing displacement of said parts. At one of the side edges of the part 1 a lug 5 is provided, which is bent laterally, s0 thatV the edge of the part 2 will contact therewith.l This lug also extends at right angles, to; the

Y of the upwardly extending part ofthe lug et, to overlie the front face of the part 2. The extended part 6 of said lug 5 has upon to engage the annular groove 3,`to further assist in' preventing displacementof the part 2 of the check.v Forming an integral part of the part 1 of the check diametrically opposite thelug 4 Vas shown at 8 is aclamping tongue 9, which curves rearwardly and extends downwardly, asshown in Figs. 8 and 5, to engage the lower portion of the rear face of the part 1. your hat or'coat or both, or checking your,
l baggage, the attendant of the hat box or the check room or baggage room removes the part 2 of the check from engagement with f' the part 1, the extension 6 of the lug 5 yielding as the part 2 is disengaged, and presents it -to the owner 7 of the wraps orv baggage, after which the part 1 is attached to the baggage or the wraps, by virtue of the clamp 9.
When checkingV either its under face a protrusion 7, which is sub-V stantially senn-c1rcular in cross section, so as When the wraps or the like are Vcalled for, f
the part 2 is presented to theattendant, who `locates the wraps having the correspondingly numbered ypart l, and detaching the part 1 returns the wraps to the owner, andv then slips the part2 in engagement with the part 1, so that the two parts wil'lpbe -held together by the lugs 4t and 5 and the protru;
The invention having been set forth, what is claimed as new and useful is:-
l. A wrap orbaggage check, comprising I two parts correspondingly numbered, one of said parts adjacent its edge having a pair o f lugs, one extending at right angles to the other, said lugs having extensionsextending toward the center of the part and at fright angles to each other and adapted to overlie theother part,to retain the other part in' position, and a spring clamp. carried by one of the parts to attach the same to a wrap or baggage. Y. 2. A wrap or twoparts correspondingly numbered, one of said parts adjacent lits edge having a pair of lugs, one extending at right angles tothe other, said lugs having extensions extending toward the center of thepart and aty right angles to each other and adaptedto overliey the o ther part, to retain the other part in position, the extension of one of the l'ugs having its under surface a protrusion,
baggage check, comprising upon its outer face to be'engged `lojfszglid. nntothi's' Spec'oation nthe prsence of protrusion to materzlly assist in holding the4 twoV subscrbngwtnesses.
