Each of the projections 1 3 of the the flower end ofthe pocli force the bottom of 4thei Y aV neater the corresponding lower edges of the openings 11. rrlhe engagement of the lower edge of the steel with the bottom andthe upper edge of the link with the top of the pocket will prevent any longitudinal displacement of the steel within the pocket, while the engagement of the notch with the front edge of the pocket prevents any lateral displacement of the steel; consequently the steel is positively loclred' within the pocket from any displacement.

The coperating front and rear steels have the usual fastening devices provided on their projections 13. rEhe corset fabric has rear flaps 19 adjacent the front edge of `each pocket for protecting the body from the projections 13 of the steel. Narrower front iaps 2O are provided at the front edge of each pochet which extend only partly over the projections 13 to cover the depending portions lil of the projections, thus giving appearance'to the corset.

When a steel is'tofberemoved from aipoclret the linlr 16 is forced through the slit 10 by applying pressure at the front edge of the pocket, as can be easily seen in Fig. Q'. After forcing the link out of the slit 1G the same can be returned to its original position at the outside of the pocket. The steel can then be pulled up within the pocket to bring the projections 13 in alinement with the corresponding openings 11. A pressure on the projections will force them into the pocket, bringing the Arear edge of the steel against the rear edgev of the pocket. By pulling on the link 19 the steel can be pulled out of the pocket. When the steels of the corset are removed, as stated, the fabric can be easily washed as any ordinary garment.

I claim:

1. ln a corset, a washable. fabric body, front and rear steels each having notched, spaced projections, said fabric having pocl ets at the longitudinal edges thereof eachY adapted to receive a steel with its projections, said pockets having openings in the edges thereof through which said projections of the steels are adapted to protrude, the notches of the projections being adapted to engage the edge of a pocket at the openings, said projections of steels having the usual closure fastening means. v

2. ln a corset, a washable fabric body,

front and rear steels having notched, space projections, said fabric having pockets at the longitudinal edges thereof, each of said pockets having a slit adjacent the upper end thereof through which a steel with its projections may be inserted or removed from the pocket, each of said pockets having openings in the edge thereof through which the projections are adapted to protrude, the notches of the projections being adapted to engage the edge ofthe poclret at the openings, whereby the steel is prevented from lateral displacement within the pocket, a link at the upper end of the steel for facilitating the manipulation thereof and adapted to engage the upper end of the pocket, whereby the lower end of the steel is brought into engagement with the lower end of the pocket, thereby locking the steel from longitudinal displacement within the pocket. Y

3. ln a corset, a washable fabric body, front and rear steels each having spaced, lateral projections, said fabric having longitudinal pockets adjacent the longitudinal edges thereof, each poclret having a slit ad jacent the upper end thereof through which a steel may be inserted inthe pocket or removed therefrom with the projections thereof, each of said pockets having openings in the edge thereof through which said projections are adapted to protrude, each of said projections having a longitudinal notch in proximity to the steel body for engaging the edge of the pocket at the lower end of the opening, a link at the upper end of the steel, and means for maintaining the linlr at predetermined positions on said steel, said link being adapted to-engage the upper end of the pocket, thereby forcing the lower end of the steel against the lower end of the pocket, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

4. A steel for corsets having spaced latera-l projections, a link pivotally connected to one end of the steel, and means for loci;- ing the linl in predetermined positions on the steel, said steel hai/ing a longitudinal notch in each projection in proximity to the steel body.

5. In a corset, a Washable fabric body having pockets at the longitudinal edges thereof, a steel removably associated with each pocket, said steel l'iaving spaced, notched projections, said pockets having openings inthe edges through which the projections are adapted to protrude, the notches of the projections being adapted to engage the edge of a pocket, and means for locking the steel in its pocket, said projections of the steels having the usual closure fastening means.
