Description
W. L. NIEMANN.
' PEN WIPER.
APPLICATION FILED NOV 6, 1914.
wi/lmemo PEN-WIPER.
' Application filed November 6, 1914. Serial No. 870,643. 1
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, l/VILLIAM L. NIEMANN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mount Olive, in the county of Macoupin and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pen-Wipers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to pen wipers, and more particularly to that class of pen wipers in which a ribbon or tape is provided on which to wipe the pen.
An object of the invention is to provide a casing having means disposed therein for wiping both the concaved and the convexed sides of a pen point.
Another object of the invention is to provide a pen wiper whichis in the form of a box having tapes or ribbons mounted therein for wiping the pen and to so construct the boX that the sides are removed, thus facilitating application of a new ribbon or tape.
A further object is to provide means for holding the tape so that a new piece of tape will be positioned for operation when desired, and to provide means for tensioning the tape to hold the same in its operative position.
IVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and claimed.
In the drawings :Figure 1 is a perspective view of a pen wiper constructed in accordance with the invention; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view therethrough; Fi 8 is a transverse section on the line 33 of Fig. 2. I
In the preferred embodiment of my invention, I provide a casing comprising a base portion 1, end walls 2,'and a longitudinallv extending partition 3 which is located centrallv of said end walls, the sides 4 of the casing being removable and held in their relation to the end walls by means of overlapping portions formed on said end walls. A cover 5 is provided for the casing and is provided with a depending flange 6 for engagement with the side and end Walls to prevent the ready removal therefrom. Angled projections 7 are formed on the inner faces of the removable sides and are Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 1, 1916.
adapted to support cushion rubber forms 8, the form carried by one of the members- 7 being concaved on its outer face, and the other form convexed. The members 7 also serve to space the removable sides with respect to the partition 4. Tapes or ribbons 9 are adapted to be passed over the formssears mesomen presenting new portions of the tape for use,
I provide slotted studs 11 and 12, the studs being passed through bearings formed on the outer faces of the removable sides and having the slots thereof adapted to receive the respective ends of the ribbon 9, sothat by turning one of the studs. the tape will be rolled over and off of the other stud. thumb gripping portions 18 being formed on the outer ends of the studs to facilitate the turning thereof. In order to hold the ribbon in tensioned engagement with the forms 8. studs 14 a e formedon the inner face of the removable sides and are adapted to support coil springs 15, one of the free ends of which engages the ribbon 9 while the o her end is prevented against mo e-' ment in one direction bv means of a s d 16.
From the construction above described it will be seen that the studs 11 mav be withdrawn and the rib on 9 removed and a new ribbon inserted wi h but slight effort on the part of the user of the device.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanving drawings, it is thought that the construction and operation of the device will be clearlv understood. and while I have herein shown and described one specific form'of my invention I do not wish to be limited thereto, except for such limitations as the claims mav import.
I claim 1. In a pen wiper. the combination of a casing, a air of studs mounted in said casing. a ribbon wound about said studs. a cushion mem er arran ed between said studs o er which said ribbon is trained. the upper face of said cushion member being c rved, ubstantially as describ d.
2. Inapen Wiper, the combination of acasface of said cushion member being curved,
ing, studs mounted in said casing, a ribbon substantially as described. 10 Wound about said studs, a cushion member ar- In testimony whereof I affix my signature ranged between said studs over which said in presence of two Witnesses.

of the casing to rotate said studs and move Witnesses:
said ribbon over said cushion member, a H. KLEIN,
spring for tensioning said ribbon, the upper A. E. FISCHER.
