WILLIAM EMIL LUCHTENBERG, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
FOUNTAIN-BRUSH.
had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in fountain brushes and has relation more particularly to a device of this general character especially designed and adapted for use in connection with a cleansing substance; and it is an object of the invention to provide a brush of this general character having novel and improved means tageous for use, all as will be hereinafter 3 is a sectional view. taken substantially on whereby the cleansing substance may be conveniently and effectively deliveredto the bristles forming a part of the brush.
Furthermore, it is an object of the invention to provide a device of this general character having novel and improved means whereby the delivery of the cleansing substance may be readily and conveniently controlled.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved fountain brush whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device is rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advanmore fully set forth. A r
The novel features of the invention will be carefully defined in the appended claim. In order that my invention may be the better understood, 1 will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a view in elevation of a brush constructed in. accordance with anembodi' ment of my invention; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view taken therethrough; Fig.
the line 3-3 of Fig 1; and Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line HofFigQ.
As disclosed in the accom anying drawings, 1 denotes a head pre erably of vulcanized rubber and ha'vingset therein the bristles 2, said bristles being so disposed as to afford at substantially the axial center of the brush, a cavity or recess 3 in which discharges the port 4 produced in the head 1 Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented net. i, ieic 1915. Serial No. 16,969.
and including the branches 5. The head 1 is preferably circular in plan and has its periphery threaded to permit detachable engagement therewith of the connecting memher 6 provided at its outer marginal portion }With the inwardly disposed annular flange 7 adapted to overlie an outwardly disposed annular'flange 8 carried by the lower extremity of the container 9 preferabliy formed of glass and having its outer en open and provided in its inner or closed end 10 with the ports 11 adapted to be brought into register with the ports 5, hereinbefore referred to, whereby the contents of said container 9 may be discharged upon the bristles 2. It will be readily perceived that the container 9 is capable of axial rotation independently of the head 1 whereby the ports 5 and 1 1 may be readily brought into or out of register, as the necessities of practice may require.
In detachable engagement with the outer or open extremity of the container 9 is the cap 15 formed of a material possessing a certain degree of inherent resiliency and which when depressed by a digit of a hand will result in the substance, preferably a liquid cleansing substance, within the con- '**in clined. 1
in order that the user may readily determine'when the ports 5 and 11 are in register, I provide the outer surface of the container 1 at a point adjacent its lower extremity with a rib 12- or other equivalent index adapted to aline with a demarcation 14 or other index provided on the outer surface of the flange 7, said ports 5 and 11 being so related as to be in register when the indices 12 and 14 are in alinemenn From the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that a fountain brush constructed in accordance with my inventionis of an extremely simple and comparatively inexpensive nature and is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled, and it will also be obspirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice.
I claim:
A device of the character described comprising a head provided with bristles, said bristles being so disposed as to afi'ord ga cavity, adjacent the head, said head having a port disposed therethrough in communica tion with the cavity afforded'by the bris tles, said port including branches to afford a plurality of entrance openings, a member in threaded engagement with the periphery of the head and provided-with an inturned annular flange overlying the inner face of the head,a container provided with an outstanding annular fiange adapted to underlie the flange of the member and capable of axial rotation independently of the head, said container having its inner end closed and provided with ports adapted to be brought in register with the branches'of the port in the head, the opposite end of the container being open, and a resilient cap removably arranged over the open end of the container. v
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM EMIL LUCHTENBERG. Witnesses:
