I w M. J. RABALAIS BRUSH Filed Jan. 14 27 Patented Sept. 6, 1927.
STATS ATEN'l B'nnsrr.
Application filed January 14; 1927. Serial No. 161,142.
This invention relates to brushes of a particular type known as the fountain brush, comprehending as an object automatic control means for regulating the discharge of the brush to prevent the discharged substance from becoming hardened by excluding air from contact therewith.
Another object of the invention contemplates a handle member embodying" a plunger member adapted to be forced therein in the discharge of the substance through the automatic discharge means.
More specifically stated the discharge embodies a flexible tubular member having a clamping band associated therewith including spring means carried thereby adapted for engagementwith said tubular member to flatten the same whereby the contents of the brush may only be discharged when subjected to pressure, thereby preventing the consents of the brush from becoming hard- .ene
With the above and other objects in View, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings Figure 1 is an elevation of the invention.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view thereof. v
Figure 3 is a transverse section taken on line 33 of Figure 2.
Figure 1 is a perspective of the automatic discharge control means.
Figure 5 is a sectional view illustrativering 14 carried by the sleeve portion wlthin the handle member 10, prevents displacement of the disk 12 from the closure cap 11-.
An outstanding annular flange 15 of polygonal configuration is carried upon the outer periphery of the disk 12 to facilitate diametrically opposite sides thereof and within the periphery to receive the keys 16 whereby rotary movement of the plunger 17 within the handle member is prevented. A nut 19 disposed axially of the plunger 17 is adapted to receive a threaded shank or plunger rod 20, having the upper end thereof fitted within the sleeve 13, depending from the disk 12.
The handle member-'10 is provided with a bottom 21. A disk member 22 carried upon the upper side of the bottom 21 is provided with a discharge neck 23 extended centrally of the bottom through an opening rovided therein and extended for an appreciable distance therefrom. Brush bristles 24 surrounding the extended portion of the discharge neck 23 are positioned within a skirt portion 25 extended from the handle 10; the skirt 25 being provided with an inwardly directed flange portion 26 adapted to frictionally engage the bristles to hold the same against displacement and to flare the free ends thereof. A flexible discharge tube 27 being carried upon the extremity of the discharge neck 23. p
A- clam ing band, such as indicated at28, is adapted discharge tube 27 upon the discharge neck 23. Spring arms 29 depending from the lower periphery and from diametrically opposite sides of the clamping band 28 have the free ends thereof tensioned against opposite sides of the resilient discharge tube 27 andnormally hold the side walls of the tube together substantially as illustrated in .Figures 2 and 5 ofthe drawing.
lt will be noted from the foregoing description and accompan ing drawing that the contents of the hantfle member 10 may be discharged through the neck 23 when subjected to pressure by the plunger 17. The s ring arms 29 depending from the s lit 0 amping band 28, carried upon the exible discharge tube 27, are adapted to to retain the upper end of the.
automatically regulate the discharge of the 7 contents of the handle member and prevent ingress of air through the tube to prevent hardening of the contents of the handle member while not in use,
The invention is susceptible of vnrious changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction, and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly full within the scope of the zippended claim.
Having described the invention what is claimed is A shaving brush comprising whollow handle embodying 2i bottom rovided With n central opening, brush bristles depending from one end of said handle, it plunger operable Within said handle and controlled eirteriorly thereof, 21 dislr seated upon the upper side of the bottom and hnving it discharge neck projected through the opening rennet end extended an appreciable distance within the brush bristles, e flexible tube carried by the discharge neck, a clam ing band securing the up er end of the exible discharge tube upon t e adjacent end of the discharge neck, and spring arms depending from opposite sides of the clamping band and arranged in converging relation for clamping engagement with the resilient discharge tube to regulate the discharge of the contents of the handle member and to prevent the ingress of air thereto to prevent the same from becoming hardened.
In testimony whereof I ailix my signature.
MALU J. RABALAIS.
