LAFAYETTE J. HARDIN, 0F SHERMAN, ILLINOIS,
SHOE-POLISHER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 17, 1908.
Application filed July a, 190'7. serial No. 382,796.
T011?? 'whom it may concern.'
e it kllowll that l, LAFAYETTE J. HARDlN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sherman, ill the county of Sangamon and State of Illinois, have illvented a new and useful Shoe-Polisher, of which the following is such a full, clear, and exact description as will ellablelothers skilled ill the art to which it appertains to make and use my said invention.
This invention relates to slloe polishers of tllat class ill which the polishin T compound is contained within the slloe polis er.
The objects of this invention are to provide a shoe )olisher having an internal chalnber adapte( to contain the shoe polish; having an outer covering suitable to serve as a rubber orpolisher; having a dauber adapted to be sup lied with said olish from the chamber o the polisller alltFllavillg a cover adapted to serve as a handle and also adapted to revent evaporation alld waste of the polishlng material.
Vith these ends in view nly invention con sists in the novel features of constrllction and combinations of parts shown in the annexed drawing to which referellce is hereby made; and hereinafter articularly described and finally recited in t le claims.
Referring to the drawings in which silllilar reference letters alld characters designate like parts in the several views; Figure 1 is a longitlldinal axial section through the shoe\ polisher; Fig. 2 is a horizontal transverse section through the body of the polisher on the lille 2. 2. of Figfl Fig. 3 is a horizontal transverse section on the line.3. 3. of Fig. 1 and Fig. 4 is an enlarged isometric projection of the dauber detached, part of the wrapping being shown as broken away to uncover the core and winding of the dauber.
The main structure consists of a bottle or` flask A, preferably of glass, having a screw tllreaded part a and a reduced neck a'. VThe flask A is covered with a soft and yielding covering B preferably ofk canton flannel or othersilnilar material having a long nap such as common on polishing cloths. The. ol-
isherB is secured on the Hask A by stitchhlnvs Q b or may be secured in any other sultab e f suitable material fits snugly around the neck a. A cu shaped han( le D preferably of thin metal), has a screw threaded part d fitting on the screw threaded part a of the flask and a Haring part d fitting closely on the ring C when the handle is screwed down. A cork E of less diallleter than the throat a of the flask has longitudinal channels e through which the contents of the flask is discharged into the dauber. A winding e surrounds the cork E as sllown in Fig. 4 an'd prevents the fabric F which surrounds the cork fronl'entering into and obstructing the channels e. A fabric F of canton flannel or other suitable material is wound around the cork E and on the outside of the winding e to roduce a dauber of suitable size to fit snugly 1n the throat'af.
I have sllown and described a dauber having a core of cork provided with channels and a wrapper of cloth surrounding the said core; but all'v other suitable crforated dauber adapte to pernlit the flbw of the polish through the dauber, nlay be used without de arture from my invention.
ll the practical use of the slloe polisher the fpolishing lllaterial will be poured into the ask, the dauber will then be inserted ill the throat of the flask, alld upoll inverting the flask the polishing nlaterial will flow through the channels e in the core E and nlay be spread by rubbing the dauber to and fro upon the shoes, and when the olisll has been properly applied the handle lllay be screwed u on the flask: and holding the handle ill t le hand tlle'operator lllay rub the covering B upon the surface to which the polishing material has been applied and by collltilnued rubbing may produce the desired po ls Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. The combination of a flask adapted to contain a polishing compound and llavin f a throat, a dauber consisting of a cllanne ed core and a wrapping surroundillg said core and fittillg ill the throat of said flask, a fibrous covering on said flask alld a hollow handle on said flask int-losing said dauber.
2. A dauber comprising, a cork core hav- A ring C of vulcanized rubber or other ing longitudinal cllannels, a winding surrounding said core and a wrapping surscribed my name at Springfield Illinois this rollnfirlg said Wirildin in ombiiation with 3d day of July 1.907. a as @Ning se am er a, apte to contain a polishing compound, and a. throat in which LAFAYETTE J HARDIN 5 said dauber fits; and a, hollow handle ilating Witnesses:
on said flask and inclosing said-dauber. FORDYCE W. BROWN,
In Witness whereof I have hereunto sub- W. K. HALE.,
