CHARLES a. FE'ITERS, or WASHINGTON, DISTRICT or COLUMBIA.
COMBINED SI-ZAVING BRUSH AND MASSAGE CUP.
Application filed August 29, 1921.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that CHARLES A. FETTERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Washington, in the District of Columbia, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Shaving Brushes and Massage Cups, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
The invention relates to shaving brushes, and has for its object to provide a device of this character comprising a brush disposed in a resilient cup shaped massaging member, by means of which massaging member the beard and face will be rubbed and massaged during the lathering operation, thereby obviating the beard rubbing operation with the fingers for softening the beard.
A further object is to provide a combined shaving brush and massaging device com prising a brush carried by a handle, a massaging cup in which said brush handle is detachably secured, and the parts so proportioned that the brush or handle may be housed within the cup, thereby allowing the handle to be utilized as a massaging element for vigorously massaging, or the brush used in connection with the cup for .lathering and massaging. Also to provide a flanged cover for the massaging cup, said cover forming means whereby the brush may be entirely housed within the cup.
With the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings 1- Figure 1 is a perspective view of thecombined brush and massaging device showing the cover removed and the device ready for use.
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the device showing the cover in place thereon and the brush entirely housed.
Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional view through the device, taken on line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4' is a front elevation of the device showing the cover in place thereon.
Figure 5 is a longitudinal sectionalview through the massage cup and the cover,
Serial No 496,368.
showing the brush in reverse position, and in position for the brush .to be used as a shaving brush or the handle of the brush used in connection with the massaging cup for vigorously massaging the face.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates a bell shaped massaging cup, which cup is formed from resilient material, preferably rubber, and has disposed in the apex end 2 thereof an annular opening 3, in which opening is frictionally held the cylindrical portion 4 of the brush handle 5. The brush handle 5 adjacent one end of the cylindrical portion 4 is provided with an annular rib 6, which engages the shoulder 7 in the chamber 8 of the massaging cup 1, and prevents rearward movement of said handle. Extending into the chamber 8 and from the inner end of the handle 5 is the brush end 9 which engages the face and is formed from bristles or any other suitable material. During a lathering operation the rim of the massaging cup 1 and the bristles 9 are placed in engagement with the face, that is after proper soaping of the brush or face and then the device as a whole is vigorously rubbed over the face in such a manner that the lathering operation and a beard rubbing operation is simultaneously obtained, after which a shaving operation may be easily and quickly accomplished as the beard has been thoroughly softened and the face massaged. When it is desired to vigorously massage the face, for instance after a massaging operation the handle 5 may be reversed to the position shown in Figure 5 and when in said position the portion 10 of the handle which is provided with lugs 11 formed of rubber or any other material, may be utilized in connection with the massage cup 12 for a vigorous massaging operation. When the deviceis in the position shown in Figure 5, it will be seen that the rib 6 will engage the end 13 of the massage cup 1 and prevent the handle 5 from slipping entirely into the chamber 8 of the cup. It will also be seen by referring to Figure 5 that the brush may be so positioned that it may be used without using the massaging cup for massaging purposes, and that said cup may form a handle, which may be grasped by the operator during a lathering operation. lVhen the device is not in use it is assembled as shown in Figures 2 and 3 with the brush 9 within the chamber 8, and housed therein by means of i the flanged cover 14, the annular flange 15 of which curves slightly inwardly and engages over and receives the massage cup rim 12.
From the above it Will be seen that a combined brush and massage cup is provided which is simple in construction, compact in form and so constructed that the device as a whole may be housed within the cup when not in use and protected from foreign matter by said cup and a detachable cover carried by the rim of the massage cup.
The invention having been set forth What is claimed as new and useful is A combined shaving brush and beard rubbing device, said vdevice comprising a brush her, a cup shaped pliable beard rubbing member directly connected to the handle member and limited in rearward movement by the shoulder of the handle member engaging in the cup shaped member, said brush being disposed entirely within the cup shaped member, said handle member being frictionally held within the cup shaped member.
In testimony whereof I hereunto SfilX my signature.
CHARLES A. FETTERS.
