Application filed December 3, 1911. Serial No. 875,391,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BARNET RUDoLrF, citizen of the United States, residing at Bayonne, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lubricating- Pintles; and I do hereby, declare the following to bea full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in lubricating pintles for butts and hinges and resides in the provision of a pintle which is constructed so that a lubricant may be conveyed to all parts of the joints of the hinge so as to prevent squeaking and reduce the wear on the barrels and pintle to a minimum.
Another object is to provide a simple and effective lubricating pintle that consists of a small number of parts, is reliable and effective in operation and which is inexpensive to manufacture.
The above and additional objects are accomplished by such means as are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, described in the following specification and then more particularl pointed out in the claims.
With re erence-to the drawings, wherein I have illustrated the preferred embodiment of my invention as it is reduced to practice, and throughout the several views of which similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of another modified form of my invention, Fig. 2 is a detail side elevation of the head or knob of the modified form illustrated in Fig. 3, and Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the pintle in Fig. 3 with the head or knob removed.
Referring to the drawings D designates as an entirety a pintle which comprises a cylindrical body 12 and a removable knob or head 13. The body 12 is hollow or in' other words a tubular cylindrical barrel body is provided and lubricant discharge openings 14 are provided at spaced points on the body so as to lubricate all hinged parts of a hinge.
A tubular extension 15 is carried by the head 13 and is arranged to extend within the tubular body 12 of the pintle D.. A vertical 011 passage-16 is formed-through the head 01' knob 13 and communicates with the tubular portlon 15. The member 15 is preferably formed integral with the head or knob 13. It will be readily seen that a lubricant may be pouredinto the hollow or tubular member 12 which is provided with a bottom wall 17 and will be discharged through the open- 1ng s 14 so that all parts of the hinge to WhlCh the pintle is attached'imay be properly lubricated.
With reference to the foregoing descrip- Patented Jan. 18, 1916. v
readily seen that I have provide imple and effective lubricating pintles for butt hinges that may be cheaply manufactured and will prove efle'ctive in operation.
In practice, I have found that the form of my invention, illustrated in the drawings and referred to in the above description, as the preferred embodiment, is the most efficient and practical; yet realizing that the conditions concurrent with the adoption of my device will necessarily vary, desire to emphasize the fact that various minor changes in details of construction, proportion and arrangement of parts may be re sorted to, when required, without sacrificing any of the advantages of my invention, as claimed.
What is claimed is 1. A hinge pintle including a tubular body having one end closed and a knob on the open end of the tubular body, said knob having a passage formed therethrough communicating with a tubular body, said body having discharge openings opening out upon the outer face thereof and communicating with the interior thereof.
2. A hinge pintle comprising a tubular body having one end closed and being provided with openings communicating with the outer face thereof and the interior of the body, a knob, a tubular extension carried by said knob and arranged to extend into with the body, and'said body having dis- :0 the open end of said body, said knob havin charge openings formed thereun a lubricating passage formed therethroug In testimonyrwhereof I aflix my signature and commumcating with the tubular extenin. presence of two witn a men.
