Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 4, 1916.
Application led June?, 1.914. Serial No. 842,453.
the hat beneath the bow ofthe hat band, the.
latter being so arranged that air can penetrate between the bow and the hat.
A curved metal plate or the like is preferably provided beneath the bow of the hat band to keep the latter distended so that the necessary space is maintained for the free entry of the air through or beneath the bow.
lThe hat is also preferably provided with a sweat band which enables air to pass through between the body of the hat and the head of the wearer.
The invention is illustrated on the accompanying drawing as applied by way of eX-V ample to a straw hat. f i
Figure 1 shows the hat in section throug the bow of the hat band and Fig. 2 is a side view looking toward the bow, parts being brokenl away.
The body a of the hat is provided beneath the bow Zn of the hat band with an opening c which is preferably framed at the edges. Beneath the bow b is a curved plate d which is provided with apertures d and which keeps the bow distended so that it does not lie close against the body of the hat. lVithin the hat is arranged a sweat band f having air passages f. The air can penetrate from the exterior beneath the-bow of thehat band or beneath the curved plate d and pass through the air passage thereby formed. The air current passing through this air passage from front to rear exercises a sucking action which draws the air out of the hat through the opening c. The air can pass through the passages 7L" in the sweat band f so that a vconstant air circulation takes place.
The hat may be of plaited straw, V'felt or any other suitable material and of any desired shape.
I claim: 1. Thel combination with a hat having Ventilating communication between the eX- terior and interior under the bow of the haty band, of means for distending. said band to form a through passage from front to rear of said bow.v l
2. The combination with a hat having Ventilatingcommunication between the eX- terior and interior under the bow of the hat band, of means for distending said band l to form a through passage from'frontY to rear of said bow, and a sweat band fitted to form a space between the hat and sweat 'band having air openings.
3. The combination with a hat having Ventilating communication between the eX- terior and interior. under the bow of the hat band, of a bent metal plate forming a through passage fromfront to rear of said bow under the bow and a sweat band fitted to form a space between the hat and said band and air openings in the lower edge of said sweat band. i
In testimony whereof I aiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
