ll'pplicaton filed July 7, 1915.
effecting a detachable connection between the brush and the handle.
In carrying out the present invention, it is my purpose to provide a device of the class described whereby a handle may be readily and quickly applied to a hand brush and removed therefrom so that the brush may be operated with ease and facility.
It is also my purpose to provide a device of the type set forth which will embrace the desired features of simplicity, efficiency and durability, which may be readily and conveniently put into use and wherein the component parts will be so arrangedahd correlated as to reduce the possibility of de rangement to a, minimum.
{ith the above andother objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, com ination and arrangement of parts hereina er set forth in and falling within the scope of the claim.
In the accompanying drawing; Figure 1 is perspective view of a brush and handle coi mected together by means of a device constructed in accordance with the present invention. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the device removed from the brush.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, 1 designates a brush of any suitable or preferred construction embodying a head 2 and bristles 3.
4c designates a handle, while 5 indicates my improved connecting device as an entirety.. This device comprises a head bar 6 having one edge formed with outwardly projecting lugs 7 spaced apart in parallel-- Specification of Letters Patent.

and arranged at any desired angle relatively to the head bar is a sleeve 10 that receives oneend of the handle 4 and formed on the sleeve 10,and projecting outwardly therefrom at diametrically opposite points, are studs 11.
' 12 designates a leverwhich, in the present instance, is formed of a single length of wire bent upon itself between its ends as at 13 and having the limbs thereof offset from the bent portion 13 as at 14 and formed with loops 15 adjacent to the extremities thereof and eyes 16 at the extremities. The eyes 16 receive the studs 11 and the limbs of the lever are designed to lie upon opposite sides of thehandle, while that portion of the lever between the bend l3 and the oifsetportions 14: embraces the handle.
17 designates a clamp. In the present instance, this clamp is constructed from a single length of wire formed to provide a bar 18, legs 19 projecting-outwardly from the bar at right angles thereto and offset outwardly therefrom, coiled retractile springs 20. contiguous to the ends of the legs 19, and eyes 21 at the outer ends of the springs 20. The eyes 21 engage in the loops 15 in the offset limbs- 14 of the lever 12.
In practice, one end of the handle 4 is secured in the sleeve 10 and the head bar 6 is placed upon the upper surface of the head 2 of the brush, while the lugs 7, arms 8 and bills 9 embrace the adjacent edge of the brush. The bar 18 and legs 19 of the clamp 17 are now engaged with the opposite edge of the brush and the lever 12 swung toward the handle and in the swingvariation may be madewithin the scope of the claim without departing from the spirit of the ig intion.
I claim: bar, and a yieldable connection between said A detachable connection for connecting a lever and clamp. 1O brush and a handle, said connection com- In testimony whereof Iaflix my signature prising a head bar connected to one edge of in presence of two Witnesses.
