JOHN G. SGHNEIDEB, OF PLAINFIELD,1\'I'EW JERSEY.
DOOR LOCK OB FASTENER.
Application filed. July 24, 1915.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN G. SCHNEIDER, a citizen of the United States, and residing at Plainfield, in the county of Union and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door Looks or Fasteners, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to door looks or fasteners and particularly to devices of this class of the wedge type, and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class by means of which a door may be secured in a closed position, or whereby the door may be swung partially open and pre vented from further movement so as to provide means for ventilation and also prevent a person from entering a room or apartment when the door is ajar or partially open.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a sectional view showing my improved door securing device and showing the method of its operation; Fig. 2 a plan view of my door securing device detached and shown in the same position as in Fig. 1; and, Fig. 3 a side edge view showing the separate parts of the device folded together.
In the drawing forming part of this specification, I have shown at a a part of a floor of a building, apartment or room, and at b a part of a door leading into the apartment or room, and at Z1 a part of a door sill, and, in the practice of my invention, 1 provide a device of the class specified comprising a metal plate 0 of predetermined length, pref erably from four to six inches, and said plate is wedge-shaped in form at one end as shown at 0 and the other end thereof is provided with a supplemental plate or angle piece 0 having projecting. teeth 0*, in the construction shown.
The supplemental plate or angle piece 0 may be of any suitable length, depending on the length of the plate a, and is preferably of a length of about one-third that of said plate a, and said supplemental plate or angle piece is formed separately and connected Specification of Letters Patent.

with one end of the plate 0 as shown at 0 by means of a hinge which will permit it to turn through an arc of approximately 245, whereby the part 0 may be turned backwardly and over and onto the part 0 as shown in Fig. 3, and this enables the device to be packed in a small compass so as to facilitate its shipment in boxes or packages and permit of its being conveniently carried.
In order to secure the door in a closed position, the wedge-shaped end 0 of the part c is passed beneath the door as shown in full lines in Fig. 1, while the teeth 0 of the part 0 are pressed into the floor, or into the carpet covering the floor, and this will prevent the door from being swung inwardly, or into an open position, as will be readily understood.
vVhen it is desired to use my improvement for holding the door against being swung entirely open, or to permit it from being partially open for ventilation or other purposes, the securing device is placed in the position shown in dotted lines at c in Fig. 1, in which position the door may be swung partially open as indicated in dotted lines at 5 lhe teeth c on the part 0 of my improved door securing device are not absolutely necessary especially when the device is used on a carpeted floor, and it will be un' derstood that the angle of the part 0 to the main plate or part 0 may be varied within certain limits when in use, without effecting the operation, or the results thereof, and the degree of this angle will depend upon the construction of the hinge c and although mj improved door securing device may be compactly folded together for packing shipping or other purpose, as shown in Fig. 3, the part 0 cannot turn or be turned in the direction of the arrow 00 Fig. 1, further than a predetermined point fixed by the construction of the hinge 0 Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A door securing device of the class described comprising a main plate of predetermined length and one end of which is wedge-shaped in form, the other end of said plate being provided with a shorter supplemental plate member connected therewith by a hinge which will permit it to turn in presence of the subscribing witnesses this one direction only through an arc of 245 twentieth day of July, 1915 whereby said supplemental plate member may be folded onto the main plate member 1 JOHN SCHNEIDER 5 or turned at a predetermined angle thereto. lVitnessesr 1 In testimony that I claim the foregoing asv ,7 HENRY LIEFKO, my invention I have signed my name in 'E. V. WALDORF. 1
