To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, SAMUEL M. Corr- MAN and GEORGE W. MOORE, citizens of the United States, residing, respectively, at Kansas City and Parsons, in the counties of Jackson and Labette and States of Missouri and Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Power Attachments for Hair-Clippers of which the following is a specification.

Our invention relates to hair clippers.

The object of the invention is to provide a power-driven hair clipper, the motor of which may be housed in the handle by which the clipper is held and guided, the motor being so designed as not to materially increase the size of the handle;

A further object is to provide a motor hair clipper that may be driven through a 0 flexible shaft by a stationary motor if so desired instead of by the self-contained motor. In order that the invention may be fully understood, reference will now be made to the accompanying drawing, in which:

Figure 1 is a side elevation of a clipper constructed according to the invention, a portion of the handle and of the clipper be ing broken away. Fig. 2 is a plan view, 1parts of the clipper being removed and the andle in section. Fig. 3 shows a transverse section on line II-II of Fig. 1.

The head of the clipper is of the well known construction in general use, comprising a toothed knife 1 slidably mounted on a coaoting toothed knife 2, a bell-crank lever 3-4 on a stud 5 for actuating the knife 1; a tension spring 6, and adjusting nut 7. Knife 2 is provided with the usual handle 8 9 designates a combined motor housing and handle consisting of a tube which is closed at one end and open at the other. This tube is provided with a socket 10 for the reception of the end 11 of the clipper handle 8. For securing said handle perma 'nently to the tube 9, we provide a metal strap 12, having its ends suitably secured to the tube, the strap holding the handle by friction or by a projection taking into a recess therein. F astened by screws 14 within the open end of the tube 9 is a block 15 which provides a bearing 16 for a transverse shaft 17,

also a bearing 18 for the extreme inner end 19 of a motor shaft 19. Fixedly mounted on shaft 17 is a worm wheel 20 having integral therewith a crank-wheel 21, provided with an eccentric pin 22. This pin is connected with a pitman 23 which is connected to the lever arm 3 by a pivot 24. 25 designates an electric motor, especially designed to be contained by the handle 9. The motor shaft 19 isextended through the end of the handle, so that a flexible driving shaft may be coupled thereto. Fixedly mounted on the other end ofthe shaft 19 is a worm gear 26 which meshes with the worm wheel 20, the end-19 of the shaft being journaled in bearing .18.

1. In combination with a clipper having a handle, a hollow handle closed at one end and having its other end open, a socket adjacent the closed end of the handle, said handle being formed so as to be longitudinally engaged with said clipper handle and to receive the outer end of the clipper handle in its said socket, a strap engaged over the inner end part of the clipper handle and secured to the hollow handle, and a motor in the hollow handle having means extending through the open end of the same to' drive the clipper.

2. In combination with a clipper having a handle, a hollow handle closed at one end and having its other end open, a socket adjacent the closed end of the handle, said handle being formed so as to be longitudinally engaged with said clipper handle and to receive the outer end of the clipper handle in its said socket, means to secure the clipper handle to the hollow handle at a point in spaced relation to the socket, and a motor in the hollow handle having meansextending throu h the open end of the same to drlve the c ipper.

3. In combination with a clipper and a hollow handle secured to the clipper, a member secured in the open end of the handle and formed with a bearing extending transverse of the handle, a shaft in said bearing having a worm wheel thereon, said member further having a bearing extending longitudinally of the handle, a motor in the handle havin a shaft one end of which is received in Sai longitudinal bearing, and having a worm meshing with the worm wheel, a crank wheel connected to the Worm wheel, and a pitman connected to the crank wheel and extending through the open end of the handle and connected to the clipper for actuating the latter.

4. In combination with a clipper having a handle, a hollow handle formed to be 1ongitudinally engaged by said clipper handle, means to rigidly secure the clipper handle to the hollow handle, a motor in the hollow handle, and means connected to the motor and clipper and extending through the open end of the hollow handle to actuate the clipper.
