Description
UNITED STATES DAVID I. sTAee, or NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN SCHOOL-SEATS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 116,369, dated June 27, 1871.
To all whomtt may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID I. STAGG, of the city, county, and State 0f New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in School- Seat 5 and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, Which Will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, in which the iig-ure is a detail vertical section of my improved school-seat.
My invention has for its object to furnish a simple, strong, durable, neat, and convenient folding seat or chair for school-rooms, which shall ybe so constructed as to allow the scholars to pass in and out freely, and which Will occupy the least possible amount of space; and it consists in the construction and combination of various parts of the seat, as hereinafter more fully described.
A is a pedestal, which is secured to the floor in the ordinary manner. To the upper end of the pedestal A is secured a cross-piece, B, Which should equal in length the breadth of the chair,
and to the ends of Which are securely attached the end frames O, to which the back D is attached, and to which the seat Eis pivoted. The end frames C, back D, and seat E are constructed in the ordinary manner, except that the said end frames C do not extend below the top of the pedestal A.
This construction enables a folding schoo1-seat or chair to be attached to and supported by a single pedestal or column, so as to obtain, at the same time, the advantages of a folding seat and single-column support.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- In combination with frames C, back D, and pivoted seat E, the cross-piece B, and single pedestal A, to form an improved school-seat.
The above specitieation of my invention signed by me this 8th day of March, 1871.
DAVID I. STAGG.
