IMPROVEMENT IN WATER-BACKS FOR STOVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 116,143, dated June 20, 1871.
To all whom it may concern.-
` Be it known thatI, ABNER J. BLANCHARD, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and Gommonwealth of Massachusetts, have made an invention of a new and useful Improvement in Cooking or Heating Stoves, Ranges, 85e.; and do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof', due reference being had to the accompanying drawing making part of this specification, and in Which- Figure l is a horizontal section of the furnace of a cooking-range with the top of the latter removed, Fig. 2 being an end elevation of the same.
This invention relates to such improvements in the construction and setting of cookingstoves or ranges as Will enable me to readily and expeditiously remove the waterback thereof Without dismemberment or general disturbance of the structure, the only preliminary step required to effect the removal of such Waterback being to detach one end portion of the re-brick or lining of the furnace which retains the water-back in place.
To carry out the purpose of this invention I create inthe end Wall of the stove or range an oriice of sufficiently large area to receive the Water-back, which is passed through it and intothe furnace, and which constitutes the rear lining of the latter, the orifice being covered and its presence disguised by an outlying' plate, whose exterior forms part of and is a continuation of the end of the range.
The accompanying drawing represents at A the general structure of a cooking-range of ordinary production, the furnace thereof being shown at B and the brick-Work in part at D.
In carrying my improvement int-o practice I create in one end wall of the structure or shell A a vertical rectangular orice or door-Way, E, of a size sufficient to easily receive the water-back, which is shown at F, and which is passed through the orifice and into the furnace. G in the accompanying drawin g represents a plate or door which covers and hides the orifice E, theA pipes or branches of the water-back extending through holes made in said door. I cla-irn- The combination, with a cooking or heating stove or range, of a water-back, when said parts are constructed and arranged, substantially as herein shown and described, to permit thewater-back to be readily withdrawn from and inserted in said stove or range.
