IMPROVEMENT lN KNIFESQOURERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 115,885, dated June 13, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVE) S. N EAL, of 'Lynn, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented anew and useful Improvement in Knife-Scourers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
My invention consists of the combination of a cork or other scouring surface with a perforated plate or feedgage, and a wooden cap provided with a-sand-charnber; second, in a piece of gauze or its equivalent for regulating the flow of send through the feed-holes or perforated plate; third, in a depression or cup in the perforated plate.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a side view of my improved knife-scourer. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same. Fig. 3 is a view of a piece of gauze for regulating the flow of sand. Figs. 4 and 5 represent two different disks, one with round holes and the other with a slot, for the passage of sand.-
In the manufacture of my improved knifescourcr the wooden cap A is turned in a lathe and two cavities or chambers made therein, one at the mouth to receive the cork or rubber B, and the other for receiving sand above the cork. A perforated plate, 1), is placed above the cork, and this plate may be provided with a cup, 0, for containing the sand, and a depression, 0. Between the plate D and the cork B may be inserted a piece of gauze, E, Fig. 3, for regulating the flow of sand from the cup or chamber 0 of the scourer.
I do not broadly claim a sand-chamber with perforated bottom in combination with a perforated cork; but I believe that the above-described lrnife-scourer is a new and useful improvement.
Having described my invention, I claim- The above-described combination of wooden cap A with the loose plate D and gauze E, or a perforated sifter, and the cork B, all constructed and arranged substantially as set forth.
