BUCKLE WITH RELEASING-GEAR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 2, 1915.
Application filed November 26, 1913. Serial No. 803,197.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELIE MoRIoE'r, a citizen of the Republic of France, residing in Paris, France, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buckles with Releasing-Gear, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its object to provide an improved buckle with releasing gear of the kind in which a spring tongue is maintained in the closed position by means of a jointed ring which can be so operated from a distance by means of controlling gear as to disengage the tongue when the buckle is to be opened.
The essential featureof the invention consists in the provision of a safety plate of special form integral with the tongue and having for its object, firstly to protect the retaining ring from any external action, such as shock or friction, capable of causing the untimely opening of the buckle, and secondly to impart to the buckle a better appearance.
This improved buckle with releasing gear is applicable to the same cases as those in which the ordinary buckles with releasing gear, are used, and more particularly those employed in the Saddlery and harness-malt ing industry and the shape and form of the constituting parts can be varied according to the applications for which it is intended.
The accompanying drawing shows a form of the invention.
In this drawing: Figure 1 is an external view of a construction applied to the connection of two straps, Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section taken on a plane at about the line X-X of Fig. l, and Fig. 3 is a crosssection taken on a plane at about the line YY of Fig. 1'. l
The buckle is made of any suitable metal and is constituted by a body or frame a which is carried at one end m by one of the straps b and whose other end an forms the pivot of a plate 0 provided on its rear face with an extension 03 forming a tongue with an enlarged or re-inforced head. The body a of the buckle is also provided with two stays e and 2', the stay 6 serving as a pivot for a tongue keeper f having an eye or ring for engaging the tongue and an eye 9 for securing thereto a suitable controlling member h which may be a cable or a rod, while the other stay 2' has secured to it a spring 9' which may be for instance, a blade spring. When the buckle is closed, that is when the tongue at is engaged with, and kept in posit1on in the eye or ring of the keeper f by the pressure of the spring j, the plate 0 serves to maintain in position a ring is carried by the other strap Z.
In order to release the two straps from each other, it is sufficient to pull the controlling member h, when the tongue (5 is released and the plate 0 is violently pushed back and the ring is is disengaged.
The plate 0 is so shaped as to form a kind of shell imparting a better appearance to the fastening and protecting the ring f while it maintains the tongue d in position against any external action such as shock, or friction, which might cause untimely release of the device, the plate vacting as a shield for the ring and tongue when the same are in interengagement. The stay 2' is provided with a projecting member n limiting the play of the ring f and preventing it from coming into contact with the spring j. Any accidental opening of the buckle is thus rendered impossible.
What I claim is 2- 1. The combination of a frame having at one end a strap connection, and a plate pivotally carried by the other, a tongue carried by the plate on the side toward the frame, a keeper pivotally carried by the frame for engaging the tongue, the plate acting as a shield for the keeper and tongue when the same are in interengagement, and a spring for pressing the tongue and plate outwardly.
2. The combination of a frame having at one end a strap connection, and a plate pivotally carried by the other, a tongue having an enlarged end carried by the plate on the side toward the frame, a keeper pivotally carried by the frame for engaging the tongue, the plate acting as a shield for the keeper and tongue when the same are in interengagement, and a spring for pressing the tongue and Plate outwardly.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
