F. P. SMITH.
NON-REFILLABLE BOTTLE.
APPLICATION FILED NOV. I2. 1913.

Www/f FRANK P. SMITH, OF FERGUSON, MISSOURI.
NON-REFILLABLE BOTTLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 19, 1915.
Application led November 12, 1913. Serial No. 800,633.
T all 'whom t may concern.
Be it known that I, F RANK P. SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ferguson, in the county of St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Non-Refillable Bottles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in nonrellable bottles.
One object of the invention is to provide a device for insertion within the neck of a bottle which carries a valve opening outwardly.
Another object is to provide a device of this character which is separable and carries the valve firmly clamped between the sections.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view through a bottle neck showing my invention in elevation. Fig. 2 is a vertical section through the neck of the bottle and through the valve carrying device. Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a horizontal section on the line 4 4 of Fig. 2.
Referring particularly to the accompanying drawings, and 11 represent respectively the upper and lower sections of my attachment, the remote ends of which are outwardly flared as indicated at 12 and 13. Secured to the upper section 10 and encircling the same is a fiat bowed spring 14, this spring being arranged to spring into a circumferential groove formed in the interior of the neck of the bottle. F irmly clamped between the sections 10 and l1 is a disk 16. This disk has formed centrally therethrough an opening, the surrounding wall of which is beveled as indicated at 17, and secured t0 one side of the disk and resting in the opening on the beveled wall is a flexible flap valve 18, a weight 19 being carried by the upper side thereof to hold the valve normally in depressed position. Each of the sections has a peripherally formed rib 20, rnd vertically formed to each of these ribs .s an aperture 21. Wires 22 are passed vertically through the said openings and their ends bent downwardly so as to -firmly clamp the sections together and the disk 16 therebetween. In the upper section 10 are arranged the oppositely' disposed and transversely eX- tending upwardly inclined baffle walls 23 which prevent the insertion of an instrument in an attempt to open the valve 18. In the upper end of the neck of the bottle is placed a work or other stop 24.
'I he outer edge of each of the flared ends of the sections is of approximately the same diameter' as the interior diameter of the neck of the bottle, so that it will touch the inner face of the neck and prevent passage of liquid' between the sections 10 and 11 and the neck of the bottle.
The sections 10 and 11 when properly clamped together by means of the wires 22 when carrying the spring 14 are pushed down into the neck of the bottle, until the spring snaps into the groove 15. The device cannot then be removed without destroying the bottle or the attachment, as it is impossible to insert an instrument between the sections and the neck of the bottle to remove the device, or to open the valve without bending or breaking the battle walls 28.
What is claimed is :l
The combination with the neck of a bottle having a circumferential grooveinteriorlyT thereof, of a device for insertion in the neck of the bottle comprising a pair of tubular sections arranged in adjustment, an apertured disk disposed between the tubular sections, a flap valve carried by the disk, an opened spring ring secured intermediately to the upper section, and engaging with its ends in the groove of the bottle, oppositely extending inclined bathe walls, in the upper section, the remote ends of the sections being outwardly flared, and touching the interior of the bottle neck, each of the sections having a circumferential rib provided with diametrically opposite vertical openings, and members secured in said openings for holding the sections firmly clamped together and the disk therebetween.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
FRANK P. SMITH.
Witnesses:
L. H. FINE, GERALD BRYANT.
