To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM L. KING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Houston, in the county ofiTexas and State of Missouri have invented certain new and useful Improvements in-Molasses and Syrup Pitchers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which'itappertains to make and use 'the s'ame. Q

This invention comprehends certain new and useful improvements in molasses and syrup pitchers and has for its primary object to provide a pitcher of this character which will be provided with a spout of such form as to prevent the contentsthereof from dripping from the spout to the outer face of the pitcheror the table or which it is positioned.

The invention has for another object to provide a pitcher of this type which will be provided with a spout of such form that the molasses or syrup will drain from the same back into the pitcher. v

The invention has for a further object to provide a pitcher of the above stated nature provided with a deflecting lip which will prevent molasses or syrup gathered upon the spout carrying flangebelow the same, from running off of the edge of the pitcher.

The invention has, for a still further object to generally improve and simplify the construction of pitchers of this character and increase the efliciency thereof without materially increasing the cost of the same.

With these and other objects in View, the

invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed. 1

For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal section through a pitcher constructed in accordance with my invention, Fig. 2 is a transverse horizontal section on the plane of line 22 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the spout and supporting plate for the same.

vReferring in detail to the drawings by numerals, 1 designates the body of the pitcher having a suitable handle 2 of conventional form secured to the rear side support upon body 1 at the forward or front portion thereof. to connect with the lower end of the spout 7, and it will be understood that the opposite sides of 'the'spout are beveled toward their upper ends and curved so that the spout 7 gradually decreases in width toward its upper end. The plate 9 is also shown as having its outer edge 11 turned downwardly and secured to the inner face of the body 1,

beneath the lip 8 but it will be understood that this edge 11 may be secured to the body 1 in any suitable and Well known manner, or if desired, the plate 9 may be formed with the body 1-. i

It will be evident that should any of the contents of the body 1 gather upon the up per face of the plate 9 and move toward the upper edge of the body 1, when the same is tilted, said contents will be preventcurved downwardly, as shown at 3 for engagement against the upper edge of the pitcher 1, along'the front thereof, so that no dirt, dust or foreign matter of any character may, enter the pitcher when the cover 3 is in closed position and hold the same against engagement with the spout.

While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in the details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made without Copies of this patent may be obtained for departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof.

WVhat is claimed is 7 A pitcher having a body provided with an inwardly extending flange around a portion of its upper edge, said flange being inclined inwardly anddownwardly, a spout structure secured to the interior of said body and positioned directly below the inwardly inclined flange, said spout structure comprising a curved plate secured to the body portion adjacent its upper edge, a downwardly extending inclined drip catch lip formed from the upper edges of said plate, its lower portion being curved upward to form a concaved spout tapered toward :its upper terminal, said spout extending upward beyond the inturned flange on the body portion and inclined toward the same.
