Description

W. F. BEUTHER.
TRANSFER PAD HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED NOV. 28. 1914.
PatentedSept. 28, 1915.
WILLIAM F. BEU'IH ER, OF LOUISVILLE,
* rrnn saarns rarnn'r ai men;
KENTUCKY, ass-xenon or onn-rnmn'ro EDWARD (JOHN AND ONE-THIRD 'TO RICHARD G TAFEL, BOTH 0F LOUISVILLE,
KENTUCKY.
To all @01 2. am it may concern 7 Be it known that I, ,WILLIAM F. Bnu'rrmn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Louisville, in the county of Jefferson and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Transfer- Pad Holders, of which the following is a specification. p
This invention relates to means for holding and manipulating street car transfer pads.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple, cheap, and easily applied device by means of which a pad of street car transfers can be conveniently held by a conductor in the act of punching and of separating one or more transfers from the pad, and whereby the pad when not in use may be hung in a convenient, available position, for instance on the part of the car near where a conductor is stationed or to a belt or to a part of the clothing of a conductor.
Further the object is, to provide means for connecting a punch to a transfer pad in position to render it capable of immediate and convenient use.
With these objects in view the invention consists of the device having the novel generic and specific features of construction substantially as hereinafter described.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a transfer pad having my improved holder attached thereto, and showing in outline the position assumed by the left hand of a user inmanipulating a punch and in separating the transfers; and, Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the holder separated from the pad.
The holder consists generally of a main portion 1, preferably composed of wire and which is of a length corresponding to the width of the transfer pad 2, and the arms 3 and 4. The portion 1 of the holder is adapted to lie along the back of the pad, and each end is bent at right-angles forming the arms 3 and 4 which are separated a distance apart corresponding to the width of the transfer pad. The arm 3 has formed with it an en largement 5 which is preferably in the form of a loop or ring and is of sufficient size to form a firm bearing surface against which may be pressed the thumb of a user in hold ing the pad firmly in order to punch a slip or to separate one or more slips from the TRANSFER-PAD Bonnier..-

pad. The opposite arm has formed with it an eye v6 to which is detachable or perma nently attached a flexibleconnection such as hook, bar, or the like in a car, or if desired to a belt or other portion of the equipment or clothing of a conductor. i
The holder is preferably, as herein shown, formed of a single piece of wire, bent back upon itself, having the hook formed of the double thickness of metal, twisted adjacent to the juncture of the hook with the main portion 1 to give rigidity to the article, and having theenlargement 5 formed integral with one arm and'the eye formed integral with the other arm.
In the use of the holder, a pad of transfers is forced between the arms 3 and 4 and retained thereby, by frictional contact. When one or more transfers are to be punched and then separated from the pad, the pad may conveniently be grasped by the left hand of the conductor as indicated in Fig. 1 of the drawing, with the index finger lying along the top of the pad and with the thumb resting against the face of the loop 5, and with the remainder of the fingers resting on the back of the pad. This gives a firm hold on the pad and permits the free use of the right hand in using the punch which is attached as shown to the holder at the opposite side to that at which the ring or loop 5 is located. The firm hold afforded by the holder permits of the quick and accu rate punching of the transfers and of the tearing of the separate transfers from the pad, thus saving time and preventing accidental wrongful punching or tearing of the transfers as frequently occurs when a pad as usually held is handled.
I claim:
A holder for transfer pads formed of a single piece of wire bent back upon itself constituting a double portion, a hook formed of such double portion, one end of the wire extending laterally of the double portion tion of the back of a transfer pad, the end of such arm being bent at an angle thereto and in substantially the same plane there With, and having its end bent into a loop forming a finger-engaging enlargement, the other end of the Wire" also extending laterallyof the doubleportion and in an opposite direction to the first-mentioned end forming a secondarm adapted to lie along h ema ing Po t on, of the b k of sa same plane, and having an eye formed in its r pad, the end of the second arm being bent at an angle thereto and in substantially the end.
