Another object of the present invention is the provision of curtain stretcher including pivotally connected laterally movable sections and transverse bars removably se cured to the ends of said sections and ada ted to be adjusted upon the sections where y curtains of various widths may be readily applied to the stretcher.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a curtain stretcher of the above character which will possess advantages in points of eliiciency and durability, is inexpensive to manufacture and, at the same time, is simple in construction and operation.

lVith the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features ofv construction, combination and arrange ment of parts as will be hereinafter referred to and more particularly pointed out inthe specification and claim.

In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this application, Figure l is an elevation of my improved curtain stretcher, parts being shown in adjusted position, in dotted, lines. In carrying out my invention, l provide three pivotally connected sections which are preferably arranged in spaced parallel relation. These sections include a central section 1 and two outer sections 2 and 2.. Each of the outer sections include a body board provided vwith the longitudinal slots 3 arranged upon opposite sides of the center and said boards are reduced at their outer ends, as shown` at '-l, forming the tapering shoulders 5 and the reduced extensions 4. It will be noted that by providing the longitudinal slots 3 within each of the side sections, it will torrn side bars (j which are arranged in parallel relation with the central sections 7 of the bars. The central section 1 includes a body board provided with parallel arranged longitudi nal slots 9 forming parallel strips including the outer strips 10 and the spaced inner strips 11. The upper end of the section 1 is reduced as shown at 12 and extending transversely at the outer end on each side thereof is a supporting ear 13 arranged in alinement with the supporting arm 8 upon theouter section. The central section l and the outer sections 2 and 2 are pivotally connected together by means of the lazy tongs 14, which include the pivotally connected angulaily disposed bars 15, the lower ends of certain of said bars being pivotally secured to the slide members 16 inovably mounted upon the outer side bars 6. The upper ends of said bars are pivotally connected to opposite ends of the supporting ear 13. The other of said cross bars have` their lower ends pivotally connected to the slide members 17, which ai'e movably mounted upon the outer longitudinal bars 12 of the central section, whiletheir upper ends are pivotally connected to the inwardly projecting arms 8.

to support the device in an upright position, each of the sections 1, 2 and 2 are provided with suitable standards which, in the present form, are indicated by the numeral 21, the upper ends of said standards being pivotally connected to the angular bracket 22, said bracket being'in turn rigidly secured to the back of the uprights 1, 2 and 2. Movably mounted upon each of the sections at the lower ends thereof, are the T-shaped blocks 23 having reduced portions to which. are removably secured the U-shaped plates The ends of the U-shaped plates 24 are adapted to engage the longitudinal edgesof certain of the spacing strips, while thefcenof the clamp 29 may be securely retained in an effective position. The specific purpose of this clamp 29 will be more clearly specilied hereinafter. It will be noted from the accompanying drawings that I have provided two sets of clamps, one set being rigidly secured to the upper ends of the sections and provided with the transversely eX- tending bolts 25, having wing nuts 27 thereon which are adapted to retain the yieldable tongues 2S of the clamps in their etfective positions.

In order to securely'fasten the ends of the curtains which are to be stretched by my improved frame, I provide a plurality of pins 30 which are arranged in spaced relation upon the central portions of the outer `sections and, in order to retain the side portions of the curtain in position, I provide the side bars 31 which are formed 1n sections` and connected by means of the hook portlons 32. It will ybe apparent that the hook portions will be retained in an effective position by means of the yicldable tongues. In placing the sections in position, the winged nuts 27 are loosened and the bars arranged beneath the tongues ,28 and disposed between according to the width of the curtain. It'

will be apparent that it is necessary to' provide blocks 23 upon the sections so as to space the bar.31 from the sections, so that the aforesaid bar will readily pass over the pins 30 which are secured to the side sections. From the above it will be apparent that any size curtain ma'y be quickly and readily applied to my improved stretching frame and the frame adjusted according to the size of the curtain and securely held in such position. If it is desired to hang the curtain stretching frame upon a clothesline, or other similar may be quickly dried, I provide suitable hook members 33 which are secured to the upper ends of the sections and adapted to readily engage with the clothes-line, or other l support. It will be noted that by the use of the lazy tongs 14, the sections 1, 2 and 2 support, so that the curtain' may be readily adjusted laterally to accommodate various lengths of curtains. It Will also be .apparent from the accompanyin drawings, taken in connectionA with the description given herewith that my improved curtain stretcher is extremely simple in construction and can be manufactured at a comparatively low cost.

While I have shown and described the preferred form of my invention, it will be obvious that various changes in the details of construction and in the proportions may be resorted to for successfully carryin my invention into practice, without sacri cing any of the novel features or departing from the scope of the invention, as defined .by the appended claim.
