Beit knownthatl, ALBERT I. SEYMOUR, of `Hecla Works, inthecounty of Oneida and State of New York, have invented a new and AImproved Blind-Fastening; and I do hereby.

declare that the following is a full, clear, and` exact description thereof, `which will enable others skilled in the arttomake and use the same, reference being had to the accompanyingcdrawin g forming part of this specification.

rlhis invention :relates to improvements in used on Window-blinds to engage with .a fixed .catch on the window-sill when the blinds are z closed to hold them vclosed 3 and it consists in an improved arrangeand the springs by scribed.

Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of a part of a blind andwindow-sll; also the fastening arranged according to my invention; Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same; Fig. 3 is a rear elevation of thepart which is y attached to the blind; andFig. 4 is a sectional elevation, 1n dotted lines, of a fastening, showing the arrangement now in use.`

These parts are all the same as -in the common arrangement, except the arma of the latch, which, as heretofore, has termi- H nated in the short stud-pin b projecting toward Specificationforming part of Letters Patent No. 115,364, dated May 30, 1871.

In my improved arrangement this arm a is made broad on the face fronting the side of the blind, and the said face is parallel, or nearly so, with the side of the blind; the object of which is to provide a bearing for the doubled end of a `Wire spring, f, the two parts of which are coiled around theV journals g of thelatch and extend4 along the side of the blind upward behind the said arm, as clearly shown ath. y

This improved arrangement is provided to save the making of the hole in the blind for the spring, as in the old way, `and to avail my self of this form of spring, which I indin practice to be much more durable than the coiled spring b. They are also preferable, for the coiled springs are very liable to spring sidewise and interfere with the walls ofthe hole; and if the hole is not the right depth, which is often the case, they fail to work well.
