a speci cation.
My Iinvention relates to an improvement in extensible molding flasks such as are used in iron, steel, brass and other foundries, and the object is to provide means whereby the sides and ends are capable of being extended. f
The invention consists of certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts which will be hereinafterV more fully t l side rails, and they are provided with the described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings,-Figure 1 .is a perspective view ofthe assembled iiask showing it in its smallestr size; Fig. 2 is n. perspective view with certain portions of the iask broken away showing the manner otextendingthe sides and ends of the fiask; Fig. 3 is a detail sectional viewthrough one of the ends; F ig. L1 is a detail sectional view through one of the sides; Fig. 5 is a detail in perspective of the inner surface of one of the sides.
A, A represent the side rails of the iask ed together at their inner ends by tongue Each side 'of the side rails A is preferably provided with a. dovetailed groove 1, 1, in which clamping bars 2, 2 are received. Bolts 3, 3 pass through the side rails and the clamping bars for fastening them together, and nuts 4, 4 are secured upon the bolts for fasteningthe bolts to the parts.
End rails C, C are made in sections and are connected together by tongue and groove joints at their inner ends. braces 5, 5 are connected by means of bolts 6 to the end rails C and the braces ai'e also connectedV to the side rails A by means of bolts 7 thereby fastening the end rails to the side rails. The end rails C are provided with longitudinal dovetailcd grooves 8 in which locking bars 9, 0 are received for fastening the end rails togethenand bolts it),
10 pass through the bars and end rails for fastening the bars and end rails together.
The inner sides the 'side' rails are provided with vertical grooves 12 for-the reception oi' the sand supporting bars 13, 13.

for joining and connecting 'them together and preventing the side rails from spreading apart especially at the center. Connected to the end rails C are the dowel pins 15 which are adapted to fit into the sockets cai'- ried by the drag (not shown). Supplemental or extension end rails 16 and side4 rails 17 are interposed between the end 'rails C and the side rails A as is shown clearly' 1n Fig. 2 when it is desired to either widen or lengthen the copeoriiask fra-me.
The supplemental extension endrails and side rails 16 and 17 are providedA with tongues and grooves so that the tongue and groove joints can be carried out with these Rods 11i extend through the two side rails Al members `in connection with the .end and.
longitudinal grooves for the reception' of the clampingbars, which clamping bars are j connected to the supplemental rails by rmeans 'of the bolts 10-and 3 respectively.,h
The ends of the side clamping'bars 2 and the ends of the side. rails A are extended forforming handles 18, 18 whereby the iiask can be carried. 1
it will be seen from the foregoingthat.
it can be made longer. in this manner it is Y not necessary to provide a plurality of va.. 'rious sizes 'of forms as is now Arequired vn Imost foundries where only a small/portion of the various sizes of flasksaare in use atf any one time andconsider-'able space is' required for storage -of the'unused flasks, and naturally the expense of repairs on a great number of flasks is very large. Y In the wideningof the flask it is necessaryto provide larger bars 13. j v t is evident that. slight 'changes might be made in the formi and arrangement of the several parts described without departing from the .spirit and scope of my invention,
and'hence I do not wish to be limited to the exact construction herein set forth.
vliiiving thus 'described my invention, what l claim as new and desire to secure 1. .in a molding/flask, the combination with sectional siderails provided with longitudinal grooves in the side walls thereof, of end rails connected to the side rails and by Let* clamping bars slidably .mounted -in the grooves of the side rails for fastening the sections of each of the side rails together.
2. In a molding flask, the combination with sectional side and end rails provided .with longitudinal grooves A1n the sides thereof, of clamping bars slidably mounted in the grooves of the side and end rails for connecting the sections of each of the side andend rails together.
3. In a molding flask, the combination with eXtensible-sectional sidev and end rails provided with longitudinal grooves in the sides thereof, of clamping bars slidably mounted in the grooves of the side and end rails for connecting the sections of each of the side and end rails together.
4. In a molding flask, the combination Awith extensible side rails having longitudi- `ing the clamping bars to the side rails for holding the various sections of the side and end rails together.
6. In a molding flask, the combination with extensible side rails, having longitudinal grooves in the sides thereof, clamping bars slidably mounted in the longitudinal grooves of the side rails for fastening the sections of the side rails together, said side rails provided with vertical grooves on one side above and below the longitudinal grooves, and sand-supporting bars located between the side rails and the ends of the vbars received in the vertical grooves of the with sectional side and end rails havingdove-tailed grooves on their opposite faces, of clamping-bars slidably fitted in said grooves, and bolts passing through said side and end rails and clamping-bars.
9, In a molding-flask, the combination with sectional side and end rails and sandsup'porting bars, the side and end rails having longitudinal grooves in their opposite faces, of clamping-bars fitted in said grooves, the inner clamping-bars of the sides locking the supporting bars against removal.
10. Inv a molding-dask, the combination with sectional side and end rails, the adjacent ends of the sections of which have a tongue. and groove joint and the sides of which have longitudinal grooves, of supplemental or extension end and side rails correspondingly constructed with a tongue at one end and a groove at the other, and side grooves, clamping-bars constructed and adapted to fit said side grooves, and means for fastening the said parts together.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature, .1n thepresence of two witnesses.
