EDMUND WEIDENBAKER, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 709,569, dated September 23, 1902. Application filed February 3, 1902. Serial No. 92,268. (No model.)
To aZZ wha'm 116 may concern:
Be it known that I, EDMUND WEIDEN- BAKER, a citizen of the United States, resid ing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented. certain new and useful Improvementsin Flasks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to flasks, and particularly to shifting boxes used in bench and other small molding for the purpose of holding the mold while the metal is'poured after the snap or first flask is removed.
The invention comprises a shifting box adjustable to different sizes, so. that in Work upon a line of molds of different sizes the box can be adjusted to fit them instead of having a number of different-sized boxes for the purpose. The box is preferably made of metal and is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figurelisaperspectiveviewthcreof. Fig. 2 is a section thereof.
The box has sides (indicated at (3) and ends, (indicated at 7,) each divided vertically into two separate parts, the adjacent ends and side portions being joined and fixed together at the corners, so as to make a solid corner. At the top and bottom edges of the parts flanges S are turned out and dowp, forming channels i), Within which slide theextensionplates 101 These plates are slotted, as at 11,
to. receive bolts 12, which extend outwardly through the side and end pieces and through the slots in the plates. Thumb-nuts 13 on the bolts serve to bind the parts at the desired adjustment.
The box is extensible in length or width, or both, and is adjustable from the size of the sides and ends alone to the size formed when the sides and ends are separated or extended to the limit permitted by the slots in the extension-plates.
The article will be found very useful and convenient in molding operations.
What I claim is- 1. A flask having divided side portions and independent adjustable extension-pieces connecting such portions.
2. A flask having sides and ends each divided into separable portions, and adjustable extension-pieces connecting such portions.
A flask having sides and ends each divided into separable portions, flanges on said portions forming retaining-channels, and extension-pieces connecting said portions and slidable in the channels.
4. A flask having sides and ends divided into separable portions the inner faces of which are flush with each other, slotted adjustable extensionpieces connecting said portions, bolts fixed to the portions and extending through the slots, and nuts on the bolts to bind the parts at the desired adjustment, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
EDMUND VVEIDENBAKER.
