more specifically to a medicine-cabinet which I have designed so as to be absolutely fool-proof, and the use of which will, I believe, eliminate the possibility of any persons being injured or poisoned by taking the wrong medicine.
My invention comprises in its particular features a cabinet having a door on which is mounted a latch which it is impossible for a child to open and which cannot be opened by an adult unless intentionally.
In the drawings :Figure 1 is a front ele- ,.vation of my cabinet; Fig. 2 is a section on line 2-2 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a vertical section through a portion of the latch portion of Fig. 1.
The cabinet A is provided with a door B which may be made of any suitable material.
Upon a vertical wall of the cabinet A is provided one member 0 of a latch. The door is provided'at d with an aperture about large enough to easily contain the middle finger of the hand of an adult. This aperture may be closed by the sliding-plate 6 provided with the operating-hook f. Located'below the aperture d, and at a distance too great for a child to be able to reach it by inserting any of his fingers through aperture cl, is
a spring-catchy of usual form adapted to cooperate with the catch member a. The op- 40 erable end. of the catch 9 is preferably lo cated in a direction perpendicular to the axis of the aperture (2. It is obvious that to open the door therefore it is necessary first to raise slide 6 and then to insert ones finger through aperture d to release springcatch 9. Inside the cabinet, there is provided, in this instance, an inner compartment having a door Z upon which is the bearing portion m preferably made of a piece of Specification of Letters Patent.

wire against which a similar metallic bearing member a upon the door B will connect when the door is closed. The door I of the inner cabinet is provided with a protection latch 0, as shown in Fig. 2. v
In operation ;It is obvious that it is absolutely impossible for a child to open the outer door 6 and thus get at any medicines or other articles contained in the cabinet which may be harmful to him. Moreover, no adult can carelessly get into the cabinet because the operation of the trick-catch of the outer door 6 requires attention. Poisons and exand isternal remedies only should be kept in the ing the materials kept within the inner cabinet. The provision of these double safe guards, I believe, Will ,prevent, where this cabinet is used, the accidents which ndw so frequently occur through a persons swallowing the wrong medicine.
Having now pointed out my invention but recognizing that many changes and depar tures can be made therefrom without departing frmmthe scope of'the invention which is more fully bounded and defined by the claims hereto appended, I claim A fool-proof medicine cabinet having in combination, a door provided with a finger opening therein, a self-locking finger-operable latch for the door, constructed and arranged inside the cabinet adjacent to but suflicientlydistanced from the finger opening in a direction perpendicular to the axis of said opening so that it is invisible through the opening and cannot be operated by a childs finger.
