A projection, O, is attached to the rear edge of the hopper, which forms a ledge, so that the back edge of the seat will pass under the projection and not fly up orbe unbalanced by coining in contact with the plunger or spring I, which is intended to open a valve and conveywater to the hopper, as in an ordinary closet, whether the said spring or plunger-rod beIplaced at the side or front of the vault-frame, while the person occupying the privy will prevent the front edge from raising by the position of the body against or upon the seat,'eithcr standing or sitting down.

In order to obtain suflicientplay of the seat to admit of its passing under the projection the straps D D are slightly bent upward, and the edge of the seat cut away a little and provided with oblong slots E E,- so that as the seat moves down on the vertical rods 0, a it will pass below the projection, still guided by .the rods, and move into the groove or ledge.

In my present invention the end of the weight E is provided with an India-rubber cushion a little larger ..than the circumference of the \veight'itself, so that friction against the side of the privy and noise in drop-- .inmy former specification, and which I think will be more fully appreciated, as the weightis not-so liable to become dislodged and fall down. i

The operation of my present invention is so nearly similar in its details to that of my former invention that an elaborate description in this connection may be deemed unnecessary. i
