FOLDABLE WARDROBE.
lApp'lieation fiiea iul e, 1914. $eria1 No. seams.
To all whom itmag concern Be it known that I, FRA CES MACDANIEL,
a citizen of the United States, and resident of the city ofNew York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented anew andImproved FoldablelVardrobe, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved foldab-le wardrobe, which is evceedingly light, simple and durable in construction, andmoreespecially designed for use in "camps, small rooms and other places, and arranged td'permit of readily folding it to form a smallbundle for convenient shipment from .onef'place to quickly setting it up whenever it is desired to use it, t 'i In order to accomplish the. desired result use is made of a back'formedof sections hingedly connected with each other, sides hingedly connected with the sections of the said back, a front door made in sections hingedly connected with the said sides,'the said back sections, sides doorflsections being ZLPPI'OXlIDILtGlY-Of the l jsame size" to fold one on top of the other,'a s'olidibbttom,
a solid top, and. means for detachably con necting the said bottom and the said 'top fto the said back and sides. Use is also made'of cleats attached to the inner faces of the sides, and a shelf removablysupportedon the said cleats. h
A practical embodiment of" the invention is represented in the. accompanying drawings forming a part. of .thisspecification, in which similar charactetrs of reference. indicate corresponding parts in all the views. 1
Figure 1 is a perspective vview ,of the it foldable wardrobe in set up position and with one of the door, sections open; Fig. 2 IS a transverse section of the same'on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 1s a sectlonal plan view of the same on the line 3-3 of Fig. I; Fig. i is a perspective view of the top; Fig. 5 is an enlarged sectional side elevation of a portion of the lower end of the wardrobe; Fig. 6 is a similar view of a portion of the upper end of the wardrobe; and Fig. 7 is an end elevation of the wardrobe with the back, sides and front in partlyfoldedposition.
The foldable Wardrobe in its general construction consists of a back A, sides B, B, a front C, a bottom D and a top E. The
the, back sections A, A
back A is made in two sections A, A con nected with each other by hinges F,and the" sides B, B arec'onnected byhinges F, F
to the back sections A, A? (see Fig. 3), and the door sections C, C are connected by hinges-l3. F with the sides B, B to allow of folding the several sections one on top of the other, as will be readily understood by reference'to Fig. 7'. v
The sections A, A B, B, C,- C? are rectangular in shape and of approximately the same size, and each of the said sections ing I of weatherproof material, the covering 'is'formedofalight rectangular frame 'covbeing preferably attached to the innerface 1 of the netting'H. The bottom D and the top E aresolid, and the bottom D is adapted to a rest on the bottom members of theframes Go f the sides B thus locating the bottom Da distance from the ground or floor on which the wardrobe is set. The bottom-D is provided on the under, side with pivoted hooks D" (see Fig. 5)" adapted to swing under the bottom members of the frames G of the sides B, B, and the said bottom D is provided with downwardly extending lugs JD engaging the outer faces of the bottom members of the framesv G of the sides B, B,
andjthe back sectionsA, A to hold the bottom D securely against shifting and to prevent the sections from accidentally folding. The top E is similarly provided at the under side with pivoted hooks E adapted to 7 I a sw'ing'under the top members of the frames G of the sides B, B" and the back sections ,RA and the said t'opF is also provided with lugs E similar'fto'the lugs D? and en-' gagingthe outer faces of the upper members of the frames G of the sides B, B and The door section C able locking devices J, J adapted to engage the bottom D and the top E to lock the said door section C in closed position or to allow of swinging the-said door section C open whenever 1t is desired to do so. The other door section C is provided with a suitable,
is provided at I the v top and bottom near the free end with suitioo The sides 13, 13v are providedwith transversely extending cleats L' located at the Winner faces of the sides a short, distance from thetop thereof, and the said cleats are adapted to support a removable shelf N which divides the interior of the Wardrobe into a'lower and an upper compartment, the
lower compartmentbeing used for suppo'rting: clothes while the upper compartment is used for supporting, hats, boxesand other smallerarticles. The. shelf ;N-is-,provided jrwith :-zhooks N and lugs N and the said hooks N and lugs N engagethe cleats L to 1 "securely holdthe'shelf Nlin' plaC e The A- 1 I, 0 for supporting clothes and the under side I of the shelf N may be provided with similar hooks, if desired. Cleats L similar to thecleats-L are provided with wardrobe hooks cleats L are attached to thcback sections A,
A immediately below theshelf N, and the said cleats L are provided, with J wardrobe [hooks vOj for supporting clothes;
a. H The underside of, the top E i's provi ded with. a stop orfkeeperE for thefdoorsections O,, C ;to abut againstand -for engage I, ment'by the lock -J,-and a similar stop or keeper D (see Fig, 2) is arranged on the upper face of, the-bottomTD forthe door a seotionsCQO toabut againstand also for engagement by the locking device J.
7 It will be noticed that bythe arrangement described, the sections A5, A ,-B, B,C: G 'can'be readily extendedto form the walls; 1 of the wardrobe, and theibottom D and the top as well astheshelf N can be quickly, placed'in position vso as to form. a ardrobe for containing clothes and other articles of [top of the said folded sections form; acorn;
- paratively small bundle.
I- Having thus described my inventiom} I claim as newand desire to secure by Letters Patent:;
