IMPROVEMENT IN PRINTERS FURNITURE.

To all whom it may concern: i

Be it known that I, JOHN FREDERICK URL- IIORN, of Sacramento, in the county of Sacramento and State of California, have invented a new and Improved Extension Side-Stick; andI do hereby declare that the followingis afull, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable Others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this speciiication, in which- Figure 1 represents. an inner face view of my improved extension sidestick. This invention relates to a new extension side-stick, or furniture for printers, and has for its Object to so shape the two pieces which compose the stick that, however extended or contracted., they will always bein proper contactwith the entirelot Ot' types. The invention consists incomposing the said furniture ot' two pieces, ot which one is grooved and the other forms a tongue to lit the grooves.

A B in the drawing represent the two parts or pieces of my improved side-stick for lookin g up forms of type. They are made of wood Or metal, and ot' such form that, when put tO- gether and contracted, as in the drawing, they will constitute one solid prismatic stick of proper dimensions. The piece A has its outer end made ot' the full crossesection of said entire stick, but is then reduced On its Outer face, so as to form atongue, a, on the inner face. This tongue is also narrower vertically than the. end ofthe stick, as in Fig. The piece B is as large at its outer end as A, but has its inner face grooved to receive the tongue a., as in Fig. 1. When the pieces are extended to lengthen the entire stick, the tongue a., toward One end, and the lower ledges b b Of theI grooved piece B will be in eoiitact with the type. On the outer faces of the pieces A l oi' nsin g side-sticks ot' different lengths, as one can be made to answer any desired length.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The extension sidestick, composed ot the pieces A and B, which have the tongue a and ledges b b', respectively as set forth.
