Specification of Lettersiatent. Aflg, 15
Application filed March 25, 1915. Serial No. 16,987.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY SGHERER, residing at Billings, in the county of Yellowstone and State of Montana, have invented a new and Improved Electric-Bulb Holder, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to that class of holders especially designed for use in connection with electric lamp bulbs and it has for its object to provide a holder for the purpose stated of a simple and inexpensive construction, that can be readily applied for use in connection with the ordinary types of electric lamp bulbs and which effectively serves its intended purpose.
My invention also has for its object to provide a holder of the character stated in which the main or body portion is composed of a spring wire strand bent to shape for clamping the lamp socket and for supporting the bulb so as to keep it from jarring loose and in its attached connection with the socket.
lVith other objects in view, that will hereinafter appear, my invention consists of a lamp holder that embodies the peculiar features of construction and arrangement of the parts hereinafter described, specifically pointed out in the appended claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my holder applied for use. Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the same as applied for use. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the same detached from the lamp.
My improved holder comprises a main or body portion bent to shape from a single strand of spring wire and a bolt and nut for clamping the holder onto the lamp socket.
The holder includes an open ring portion 1, the free end of which is bent to form an eye 2 and the other or opposite end of which also terminates in an eve 3 that opposes the eye 2, and together with the said eye 3 is adapted for receiving a bolt 4 that carries a nut 5, that clamps the ring portion 1 about the socket 6 when the holder is applied for use, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawlugs.
7 designates the hanger portion of the holder formed by bending the wire strand downwardly from the eye 3, and the said portion, in practice, is of a length to extend down to the lower end of the bulb, and the lower end of the said portion is bent to form a coil 8 and then inwardly at right angles to form a supporting member 9, the end of which is bent into a coil 10 to provide a seat for engaging the lower end of the bulb 11..
By reason of the peculiar formation of my spring wire lamp holder, the same can be quickly applied to or removed from the lamp socket and the bulb, by proper adjustment of the nut 5 on the clamp bolt 4 and by bending down themember 9 from engagement with the lamp bulb, it being understood the coil 8 on the wire puts the required tension on the member 9 to keep the lamp from jarring loose in the socket and from vibration.
The spring coil 8 can be used for hanging up the lamp.
From the foregoing taken in connection with the drawing, the complete construction, the advantages of and the manner in which the holder may be applied for use will be readily apparent.
While the construction of the holder shown is a preferred form it is particularly understood that changes in size, proportion and minor details thereof may be made without departing from my invention and which may come without the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. A lamp holder formed of spring wire comprising an open ended ring portion provided with opposing eye members, a bolt and nut for cooperating with the said eye members for clamping the ring portion on a lamp socket, a member pendent from the ring portion bent at the lower end to form a spring coil, and an inwardly projecting portion, said projecting portion terminating in a coil that forms a seat for receiving the lower end of a lamp bulb, the aXis of said spring coil lying in a plane at right angles to the plane of that of the axis of the seat coil.
2. The combination with a lamp socket and bulb; of a spring wire holding device, one end of Which is bent to form an open ended ring, the opposing ends of the said angles to the pendent member and Whose ring portion terminating in coils, a bolt for end terminates in a coil for engaging With 10 engaging the coils, a clamp nut on the bolt the lower end of the lamp bulb.
for drawing the ends of the ring portion tot gether, a member pendent from one of the HENRY SGHERER' coils of the ring portion Whose lower end is Witnesses: bent to form a spring coil and terminates in E. F. OGBoRN, an arm that projects inwardly at right W. S. GARNsEY, Jr.
