MARTIN ELZAS, 015 LOS ,ANGELES, 'CALITORNIA, ASSIGNOR T0 ELKO B. DYKHUIZEN' AND ROBERT F. LANGER, BOTH OFLOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
BUTTER-men 'nnrniennnron.
Patented Aug. it, 1915.
Application filed June 15, ion. Serial No. 845,201.
To all whom it may concern Be it knownthat Ll/IARTIN'ELzAs, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Los Angeles, in-the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have-invented certain new and useful Improvements in But' ter-Dish Refrigerators, of whi'chthe following isa specification. Y
My invention relates to improvements in refrigerators, adapted to be placed upon a I butter dish or plate, for maintaining the butter suitably cool, duringuse upon the table or the like.
An important object of the invention is to provide a device of the above mentioned character, which is simple in construction,
inexpensive to manufacture, and highly convenient in use.
Other objects and advantages of the inven- ,tion will be apparent during the course of the following description' 'In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same, Figure 1 is a central vertical sectional view through a device embodying my invention, and Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same, with parts removed. a
In ,the drawings wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my inventiona the numeral 5 designates a receptacle as a whole, comprising preferably annular spaced inner'and outer walls 6 and 7, providing a water receiving chamber or jacket 8, the lower end of which is permanently closed, as shown. The receptacle 5 has the lowervend of its opening or of this patent may be obtained f0 bore open, as shown at 9. Arranged within. the upper portion of the opening or bore 9 is an ice holding compartment 10. which is preferably secured to the inner wall 6. This ice holding compartment is tapeied and decreases in diameter downwardly. The ice holding compartment 10 has communication with the chamber 8 by means of a pipe 11.
The numeral l2 designates a cover, carrying annular depending flanges 13 and 14, -adapted to snugly engage with the walls 6 Trespectively. The cover 12 has 8;l'l2tlldle15, by means of which the 'ntiredevice is raised and lowered, inuse, t e flanges 13 and 14 having su'fiici'ent frictional engage- -ment with the walls ,6 and 7 to'hold these parts together during the manipulation of the entire-device by the handle 15. While it ispreferred to secure the cover 12 to the receptacle 5 by means of the flanges, it is obvious that other means could be employed."
In use, the device is placed upon the butter dish or plate. and the butter projects up into the lower end of the opening or bore 9. The ice within the compartment 10 serves to keep the butter suitably cool, and the cold water I size, and, arrangement of parts may be re sorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim. Having thus described my invention, I claim:
A refrigerator adapted to be arranged upon a butter dish or plate; comprisinga receptacle including spaced inner and outer walls providing a water receiving chamber or ]acket ,7 an ice holding compartment arranged within the upper portion of the receptacle and secured to the inner wall of the receptacle;'a pipe establishing communica-- tion between the interior of the ice holding compartment and the water receiving chamber orjacket; and a cover provided witha handle, said cover being detachably secured to the receptacle and adapted to raise and lower said receptacle and closing the upper endsof the ice holding compartment and the water. receiving chamber or jacket.
lintestimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MARTIN ELZAS.
