COMBINATION-GARMENT.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEO J. MATTY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the borough of Manhattan, city and State of New York, have invented certain new.
and useful Improvements in Combination- Garments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to combination garments or union suits, more particularly to dress or neglige shirts with drawers attached, and combination undergarments, and the objects of the invention are to provide a combination garment that is easy to put on and take off.
Further objects of the invention are to provide the front of the garment with an opening which permits of the garment being turned back tov provide a back opening.
To the accomplishment of the above objects and to such others as may hereinafter appear, the invention. comprises a combination garment having shirt and drawersattached, the front of the drawers being open on diverging lines from the crotch to the vicinity of the waist line, said opening in the drawers being closed by the lower front portions of the shirt, said drawers being also open down one or both legs.
I will now proceed to describe my invention with reference to the accompanying drawings, and will then point out the novel features in claims.
Figure 1 is a front view of a garment made in accordance with the present invention. Fig. 2 is a view of the garment shown in Fig. 1, showing one leg unbuttoned and folded back to provide a back opening. Fig. 3 is a View of the garment shown in Figs. 1 and 2, open all the way down the front. Fig. 4 is a front view of a garment made in accordance with the invention showing an alternate construction.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the body of an undergarment or union suit, to which is secured the drawers 2; in the present instance shown as of knee length, although the same may be made longer if so desired. While the body of the garment is shown as an undergarment, the invention is equally applicable to a dress or neglige shirt with drawers attached.
In accordance with this invention, the front of the drawers is provided with an opening having diverging sides which ex- Specification of Letters Patent.

tend from the crotch to the vicinity of the waist line of the garment. In the present instance the front of the drawers is cut from the crotch 3 along the dii erging lines 4 to the waist line seam 5, as clearly shown in Fig. 1.
The. front opening in the drawers is closed by the lower front portions 6 of the shirt or body of the garment, which is open from the neck downward and closed by means of buttons or similar fastening means 7. l
The lower front portions 6 of the shirt or body are preferably made of sul'l icient length to extend below the crotch of the drawers to permit of the same being loosely tucked in when in use as shown inFig. 1.
By referring to Fig. 1, it will be seen that one of the drawer legs is open on the front thereof from a point near'the crotch 3 downward along the line 8 through the end of the drawer leg, This opening Sis closed by means of suitable buttons 9. In Fig. 2 the leg openingB has beenunbuttoned and the garment folded backto provide aback opening, it not being necessary, ordinarily,
to unbutton the body ,of the garment to provide a suitable back opening, as the construction of the garment is such as to permit of the necessary back opening when the drawer leg is unbuttoned.
In Fig. 3 the garment shown in Figs. 1 and 2 is shown with the body and drawer leg both unbuttoned making the garment,
easy to put on or take ofi.
If desired the garment can be made as shown in Fig. 4, in which both legs of the drawers are shown provided with leg openings 8 which when open permit of the gar ment being put on and taken off like a coat. The front of the drawers shown in this fig ure are cut from the crotch 3 along the diverging lines 4 which, in the present instance, extend to nearlythe outer sides of the garment, suitable buttons 10 being pro vided to secure the front of the shirt to the drawers. If desired, these buttons 10 can be omitted although the garment fits better when the same are provided, especially where the front of the drawers are out along diverging lines 4, as shown in Fig. 4.
From the above description it will be seen that a garment made as shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, and provided with a drawer opening 8, does not require an opening in the back of the garment, which is a great advantage.
It is also to be noted that it is not ordinarily necessary, in order to provide a back opening, to do more than merely unbutton the opening 8, the front of the drawer leg to which the opening 8 connects, being cut on the diagonal line 4, and does not necessitate the body portion being unbuttoned so as to provide a back opening as shown f 7 in Fig. 2.
While the invention has been described with particular reference to the details of construction, the same is not to be considered as limited thereto, as many changes can be made and still fall within the scope of the invention set forth in the following claims.
What I claim is:
1. A combination garment comprising a one-piece suit, consisting of shirt and drawers combined, the front of said drawers being open on diverging lines extending from the crotch to the vicinity of the waist-line, and at least one of said drawer legs being open on its inner side from the vicinity of the crotch downward to the lower extremity of the drawer leg.
2. A combination garment comprising a one-piece suit, consisting of shirt and drawers combined, the front of the drawers hav- Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents,
ing a diverging opening extending from the crotch to the vicinity of the waist-line and at least one of said drawer legs being open 011 its inner side on the front of the garment from the vicinity of the crotch downward.
3. A combination garment comprising a one-piece suit, consisting of shirt and drawers combined, the front of said shirt being open from the neck downward to the vicinity of the crotch, the lower front portions of said shirt being arranged to close a diverging opening in the front of said drawers, and at least one of said drawer legs being open on its inner side from the vicinity of the crotch downward to the lower extremity-of the drawer leg. 7
l. A combination garment comprising a one-piece suit, consisting of shirt and drawers combined, the front of saiddrawers on at least one side being unfastened from the shirt portion from a point in the vicinity of the waist line and near a side thereof, to the crotch, and a drawer leg on the same side being open from the vicinity of the crotch to the lower extremity of said drawer leg, to permit of the drawer leg being readily folded back without opening the shirt portion of the garment.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
