NIPPLE IFOR NURSING-BOTTLES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 2?, 1915.
Application filed February 12, 1915. Serial No. 7,806.
New York city, in the county of New Yorkand State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Nipples for Nursing-Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to nipples especially adapted to be used upon nursing bottles and it consists in the novel features hereinafter described and claimed.
An object of the invention is to provide a nipple of the flexible type having its parts so arranged that the nipple may be easily and quickly applied to the mouth of the bottle and also the nipple may be applied without necessitating an operator inserting a finger within the nipple in order to stretch the same to receive the mouth of the bottle.
With the above objects in view the nipple comprises a body portion having atoone end the usual outlet opening and provided between its ends with an annular bead adapted to receive the annular bead at the mouth The nipple is provided at one side of the said bead with a'skirt portion which is approximately conical in section and which is adapted to receive the neck of the bottle and which when the nipple is in position upon the bottle stands out from or 1s spaced away from the said neck.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 is a side elevation of the upper portion of a bottle with the nippleapplied. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the nipple.
The nipple comprises a body portion 1 of usual configuration provided at one end with an outlet opening 2 as usual. The body portion 1 is provided between its ends with an annular bead portion 3 which is adapted to receive the bead at the mouth of a bottle when the nipple is in position upon the same as best indicated in Fig. 1 of the drawings. The body 1 is provided adjacent the bead portion 3 with a skirt portion 4: which is substantially conical. When the nipple is applied to the mouth of a bottle the said skirt portion stands out from and surrounds the neck portion of the bottle as clearly indicated in Fig. 1 of the drawing. The larger end of the said portion 4 is at the extreme end of the body of the nipple and consequently when the nipple is applied to the bottle the mouth of the neck of the bottle is inserted in the larger end of theskirt porand nipple are not in use to remove the nip-' ple from the bottle and immerse the same in a suitable sterilizing solution as for instance boracic acid. When the nipple of the usual configuration is applied to the mouth of a bottle it is frequently necessary to insert the finger in the larger end of the nipple to stretch the same to receive the bottle neck. The insertion of the finger in the nipple removes the sterilization therefrom and-may possibly infect the nipple. The possibility of this danger is prevented by the present structure inasmuch as the said portion of the nipple may be readily slipped over the mouth of the bottle without requiring the necessity of inserting the finger in the nipple.
- .Having described the invention what is claimed is:.
A nipple comprising a body portion having an intermediate annular bead and provided at one side of the bead with a skirt portion of conical configuration the larger end of which is of greater diameter than the diameter of the bead.
In testimony whereof I, aifix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
