DISPLAY DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 20, 1915.
Application filed September 30, 1913. Serial No. 752,554. 7
To all whom it may concern lie it known that I, JnmnN Srmsnrus, a subject of the King of Great Ib'itain, residing in the borough of Brooklyn, in the city of New York, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to display devices and has for its object to furnish a display device which is held in position by the Weight of the article intended to be sold.
For this purpose the invention consists of the improvements hereinafter set forth and finally pointed out in the claim.
i In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 shows a perspective view of my improved device ready for use, Fig. 2 is a side view thereof showing the device when in use,
with the representation of an article of manufacture. shown thereon in dotted lines, Fig. 3 s a horizontal section taken on line 3'--3, showing the article carrier in plan, Fig. 4 shows at detail of the connections between the front-wall and the supporting wall, Fig. 5 shows a front view of the device when in collapsed position, and Fig. (3 is a vertical transverse section taken on line 6-6 of Fig. 5.
Similar reference characters-indicate corresponding parts throughout the different figures of the drawing.
Referring to the drawing, the front-Wall is arranged in the form of a horseshoe for artistic purposes, although anyother shape may be given thereto, and is indicated by the reference character 10. This front-wal1 10 is provided with a cutouts forming an opening 11, which has an abutment 12 at T0 the rear of the front-wall '10 a stay 13 is hinged, as
indicated at 14, and this stay has; one portion 15 thereof extended dcnvnwarilly to be in contact with the floor or tablerbn which the display device is placed, and 'to be in substantial ahucmcnt with the lowermost ends 16 of the "l'rontnvall 10. lientlup from the rear-stay I is a platform 17 hinged to the rcanstay at l and extending forwardly through the cutout portion ll atcith 1- side of the abutment IL. This platform ha. la slot .20 cut out therein, with av laterally-elfiftcnding portion 21 extending sidcwise of. tpe abutmeat 12 beyond the outeredgcs of 17- e opening'to prevent the platform from leaving the said opening. By the engagement of the abutment 12 with the slot 20, and the resting of the platform 17 onto the frontportion 22 of the front-wall 10, a. locking action is secured. This is clearly shown in Fig. 4. and also in Fig. '1. Iii-Fig. 3 is clearly shown the plan view of the platform 17. To enable the stay 13 to extend downwardly to the point 15, as indicated in Fig. 2, and at the same time enable the platform 17 to'be bent up therefrom, the rear-stay 13, before .it is bent up into the platform 17, is provided with a U-shaped cut indicated by 23.
The display device'is shown in Fig. 1 in perspective view and in open position ready for use. It may be provided with suitable advertising phrases or pictures on the frontwall thereof, and after it is so placed in position, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a sample of an rticle of manufactnre intended to be sold, or offered for salefdrlto induce the sale of articles, is placed on"the platform 17,:
When it is desired to collapse the easel display for the purpose of shipping, the platform 17 is raised upwardly until the stay 13 is flush with the rear-portion of the front-wall 10..after which the platform is bent upwardly against the stay 13 and against the; front-wail 10, and the device may be readily shippedin large numbers without taking up very much room.
It is clear that changes may be made Without departing from the spirit of my inven-' tion as defined in the appended claim.
I claim:
A display device, comprising a front Wall provided with an opening, the lower-.portions of the sides of said opening being vertical. the upper portions tapering inwardly, and a base of the opening parallel to the base of said front wall, shoulders in the corners formed by said lower portions of the sides and said base, a. stay hingedly secured at the back or'said front :wallof a width slightly less than that of the low-er portion of said opening, said stav being providcd with a U-shapcd cut, the lower poriion of which extends below the base of the opening in the front wall, the said stay being bent forwzn'rfiy at the upper ends of the U-snapcd cut to form :1 plzztfoym, and :1 real support, the sides of said platform-hm ing pmvided near is" engaging in the front and rear the shoulders of the front wall for Making the/said support in posit-ion, and said extensions extending beyond the sides of the opening of end with slots, for
tho front wall for preventing the said sup port from lH'lilg the sand. openln In tcstnnony that 1 chum the foregoing as my inventlon, have slgned my name 111 presence of two subscnblng \vltnesses.
