CURTAIN AND SHADE-ROLLER surron rnn.
Application filed June 20, 191;,Ser ia1 No. 774,803.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, LOUIS ZEVIN and HARRY ZEVIN, citizens of the United States, residing at New Britain, in the'county of Hartford and btate of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain and Shade-Roller Supporters, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to improvements in curtain and shade roller supporters, and the object economy in construction and and efficiency in use.
In the accompanying drawing z-Figure 1 is a front elevation roller, a curtain pole, casing. Fig. 2 is a enlarged scale of the left hand curtain and shade roller holders. Fig. 3 is .an end elevation of the same. Fig. 4 is a sectional view on the line w a; of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a fragmentary view of the right hand shade roller holder. F ig. 6 is a front elevation of the base plate. Fig. 7 is a front elevation of the way plate. tion of the blank for the way plate.
is a view corresponding to Fig. 1 and on the same scale of a modification of our shade roller holder as applied to the inside of the window casing of. Fig. 10 is larged scale of one of ets shown in Fig. 8. Fig. 11 is a similar view of the same and in a different position.
Ourcurtain and shade roller supporter comprises a pair of a side elevation on an e11- 11 suitable for beingsecured to the window casing 12 and having adjustable means for supporting a shade roller l3'and'removable and adjustable means for supporting a pole 14: for a curtain.
The means for supporting the shade roller 13 comprise a left shade bracket-l5 and a right shade bracket 16 and the means for supporting-the curtain pole 14 comprises a pair of curtain brackets 17 and these means are supported in pairs on each side on a common base 18. The curtain brackets 17 and same are simibed in a com- 774,804, filed June 20, 1913. The left shade bracket 15 is provided with a slot 19 and the right shade lar to those shown and descri Specification of LettersPatent. I

provided waif-51101520 and 1 The base 18. comprises an elongated rec-u tangular structure having away 21 extending laterally along the body portion thereof, and is composed of abase plate 22 and a way plate 23'. The base plate 22 comprises a rectangular plate, having holes .56 along the lateral edges for holding screws and provided along the body portion with a longitudinal slot '2 land witha plurality ofperforations 25 oneach side of the slot 24,
below'the said'slot. At the outer end the base plate 22 is provided with a'platform 26provided with studs 27 for removably re ceiving the curtain bracket 17 preciselyv as shown inthe companion application already mentioned. Theway plate 23 as shown in the blank in Fig. 8 is a flat plate'correspending in length to the body portion of the baseplate 22 inward from :the platform 26 shown as 'fourin number, two above and two and has a slot 29 corresponding to the slot 3 24 in the base plate 22 and has integral pins or lugs 30 extending outwardly from the upper and lower ing in number to the perforations 25, and the said plate 23 is bent shape and suitablyfo'r the lugs 30 to register with the perforations 25 and to provide a space suitable to constitute the way 21 between the front body portion 31 and theyopposed portion of the back plate22. After the way plate'23 is placed in the position described the lugs 30 arehea'ded over as shown in Figs. 3 and 4 and these thereb serve to secure the said way plate 23 to the base plate 22. i The shade brackets 15 and 16 comprise each a base arm32 and shade roller arm 33 at right angles thereto, the latter having the slot 19 for the left side and the hole 20 for the right side. The fit for the way 21' hole 3-1 in which is positioned a clamping screw 35. The clamping sorew35 has a flat sided head 36 positioned inthe slot'2 lin and having the flattened w 9 clamping screw 35 extends through the hole 34- and also the slot 29 in the way plate 23 edges and correspond.
downward alongthe upper and lower edges to a shallow U base arm 32 is a sliding and'is provided with a oder l0 suitable for a rest for and is provided on the forward end with a clamping nut 36 that bridges the slot 29 and engages with the front face of the body portion 81 of the way plate 23, and serves thereby to clamp the shade bracket in the position to which it may have been set along the slot 29. As described, the head 36 of the clamping screw 35 is housed in the slot 24: in the base plate 2-2 and the clamping screw 35 travels with the base arm 32 of the shade bracket as the same is moved along the base, and the clamping screw 35 and nut 36 serve to clamp the base arm 32 to the way plate 23 when. in the clamped or locked position.
When used at the lower part or sill of the window casing and on the inner side as shown in Fig. 9, the shade bracket 15 having the slot 19 is used at the right and the shade bracket 16 having the hole 20 is used at the left and when used in this position we prefer to provide a special construction for the slotted bracket 15 as shown in Figs. 10 and 11. In this construction the shade arm 33 stands vertically and upright and the slot 19 extends vertically and has an entrance way or mouth 37 at one side and at the lower end of 33 is fixed and we provide a closure for the said mouth 32' in the form of a movable member or slide 38. The said movable member 38 is in the form of a plate, pivotally connected by its lower end to the fixed arm 33 by the pivotal pin 39 which is below the slot 19 and suitable to swing toward and over and away from the mouth 37. The upper end of the slide 38 is cut away on the inner face as shown at 39 to provide a shoulthe flat end 11 of the shade roller, and at the same time to provide an edge 4-2 practically flush with the corresponding edge 43 of the slot 19. Tn cutting away the slide 38 as described to form the shoulder l0 and the edge 12 a lip i4 is left integral with the slide 88, and which is bent over suitably to engage in the closed position with the edge 13 and thereby lock the slide 38 in the closed position. The shoulder 4.0 is positioned in approximately horizontal alinement with the upper wall of the mouth 37, and because of this any twisting or torsional strain on the part of the flat end d1 of the shade roller is transmitted directly to the walls of the slot 19 in the fixed arm 33* and no part of this is brought to bear against the slide 38. Accordingly, the shade roller bracket shown in the said Figs. 9, 10 and 11 provides a posi- Copies of this' patent may be obtained for five cents each,
the said slot 19 The arm said head of tive means for supporting and locking the flat end of the shade roller in any position and is of course of special utility under the conditions shown in Fig. 9 or used in the reversed position from that or ordinary use for shade rollers. Under the conditions shown in the said Fig. 9 the curtain bracket 17 is generally dispensed with and the platform 26 is accordingly dispensed with and the shade roller arms are positioned on the outer side of the clamping screws 35.
We claim as our invention 2- 1. A shade roller supporter comprising a pair of plates consisting of a front plate and a rear plate secured together in spaced relation and having slots in registration, a shade bracket extending through the said slot in the front plate and having a supporting arm bridging the same, a screw extending through the said supporting arm and slot in the front plate and having a nut at the front end, the head of the said screw being positioned at the rear of the said supporting arm and having flat side portions, the portions of the said rear plate on each side of and adjacent the slot therein serving to cover and inclose the lateral edge portions of the said supporting arm, the edge walls of the said slot in the rear plate being in engagement with the said fiat side portions of the the screw suitably to prevent rotative movement thereof, and the said rear plate extending outwardly relatively to the said front plate, and having screw holes, whereby the said rear plate serves as a base plate for the supporter, cooperates in housing the supporting arm of the shade bracket, and prevents rotative movement of the clamping screw.
:2. In a shade roller supporter, a shade bracket for the flat end of the shade roller comprising a fixed member having a slot and a mouth opening laterally at one end thereof, and aslide pivotally connected to the said fixed member and suitably positioned to close the said mouth, and the said slide having a shoulder suitable for supporting the shade roller, and a lip on the said slide suitable for engaging with one of the walls of the said. slot and to serve as a latch to hold the said slide in the closed position.
