CARPENTERS CLAMP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 6, 1915.
Application filed April 9, 1915. Serial No. 20,134.
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD J. KoBnR'r, a citizen of the United States, and residing at Woodside, Long Island, in the county of Queens and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Carpenters Clamps, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to clamps of the class used by carpenters in making door frames and sash frames, picture frames, and other devices or articles of this class; and the object thereof is to provide an improved clamp of the class and for the purpose specified which is simple in construction, effective in operation, and may be ouickly and easily attached to a supporting bar or board connected with a work-bench or supported in any desired manner.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views. and in which Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved clamp device; Fig. 2 a side view thereof with a part of the construction broken awa and, Fig. 3 a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2. i
In the accompanying drawing I have shown at a a supporting board or bar having parallel sides and a flat top surface and which may be connected with an ordinary work-bench, or be supported in any desired way; and in the practice of my invention, I provide a clamp of the class specified which comprises two parts I) and c.
The part 7) consists of a block-shaped attachment 6 adapted to be mounted on the board or bar a, and which is provided with a horizontal tubular barrel or keeper 7) through which is passed a screw 6* provided at its outer end with a head I) through which is passed a rod 6 by which the screw 72 is manipulated, and said screw is provided at its inner end with a detachable block or head member I) which may be connected therewith in any desired manner.
The barrel 6 is provided with a. raised bearing 12 through which is passed a bolt b, and to the opposite ends of which are pivoted side arms d, and the side arms d are connected with the bar a by a bolt 0 which is provided at one end with a head 6 and at the opposite end with a thumb nut 6 The part c of the device consists of an abutting block which is also mounted on the board or bar a, and provided with side arms 0 which are connected with said block by a pin or bolt 0 and with the board or bar a by a bolt f provided at one end with a head f at the opposite end with a thumb nut 7'. The bolts 6 and 0 are preferably both riveted at their opposite ends and the arms of and o are thus permanently connected with the parts 6 and c and are always in position for use, and all that is necessary is to connect them with the board or bar a as shown and described.
In the use of this device in making a frame of any kind, such as a door or door frame, a sash or sash frame, or a window frame, the said frame is placed between the abutting block a and the inner end or head of the screw 7), and by turning said screw the frame may be securely clamped and held in the desired position for nailing or otherwise securing the parts thereof together, and it will be apparent that the arms (Z and c of the parts 6 and cmav be connected with the board or bar a in different positions, or may be adiusted on said board or bar into any desired position or positions. all that is necessary being to provide the said board or bar with suitable holes or apertures as shown at a through which the bolts 6 and f may be passed, and while I have shown the preferred means for connecting the separate parts of my improved clamp with the board or bar a and the preferred form of said separate parts, my invention is not limited thereto, and changes therein and modifications thereof may be made, within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A carpenters clamp, comprising two parts adapted to be mounted on a suitable support, said parts being provided with side arms pivotally connected therewith and adapted to be pivotally connected'with said support, and one of said parts being provided with a screw-shaft which is passed horizontally therethrough and is adapted to operate in connection with the other part to hold a workpiece.
said support.
2. A carpenters clamp, comprising two In testimony that I claim the foregoing parts adapted to be mounted on a support as my invention I have signed my name in 10 having parallel sides and a flat top surface, presence of the subscribing Witnesses this said parts being provided With side arms 8th day of April 1915.
which are pivotally connected therewith, EDWARD J. KOBERT. and bolts adapted to be passed through the Witnesses: free ends of said side arms and through C. MULBEAVNY,
H. J. THOMPSON.
