'Application filed June 1.6, me. xSerie?. o. lff
T0 all 'whom 'z't may concern.'
Be it `known that Jessen "B Helsen, a citizen of` the 4United States, residing.' at
Williamsport, in 'the county of Lycoming and State vof Pennsylvania, .have invented certain :new andfrisefu'l Improvements in Pipe and 'Gable Hangers; and do hereby declare the :following to be e full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to maire Aand use the same. f
This invention relates to pipe and cable hangersr and has for its object to provide a device of this nature which will be inefi- 4pensive to manufacture and one that will be more eiicient and certe-in in action than those heretofore proposed. l
lWith these and other objects in vienT the invention consists in the novel details of construction and combinations of parte more fully hereinafter disclosed und perticularly pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification in ivlii ih like numerals designate like parts in all the views, Figure l is a diagrammatic side elevational view showing my invention applied to a beam; Fig. 2 is u perspective yiev,v ot one ot' the clamping members; Fig. is n side elevational view partly in section of the strap portion of my hanger applied to a Wooden or other support; Fig. 4'- is a diagrammatic end elevational view illustrating how the strap portion ot' my hanger may be employed to support a plurality of pipe, cables or other objects; lfigs. 5 and G illustrate Still further of supporting,` pipe, cables, etc., by the strap portion o; roy hanger; Fig. 7 is a bottom plan vien* olf t strap l, employ as a hanger; Eig. 8 :i
member l employ lo hold the parts gether; and Fig` 9 is a perspective View of a convenient forni of T-headod screw employ with Wooden supports l indicates a clamp member preferably o1E Sheet steel, having thc holding member 2, adapted to overlie the flange 3 of a beam fi, and provided with the bent holding toes 5 preferably formed by bending the metal et right angles to the body l and then. reversely bending it back upon itseli2 as plainly shown in Fig. 2. The said clamp member l is further provided With the elongated holes 6 having the enlarged eye portions 7, adapted to receive the toes 5,as Well as the parallel l may is provided with the elongated hf sirene@ f holding members S and cross member 9 of 'the Hella-pcd locking member lt", es will more fully appear hereinafter.
y The strap member l2 of my henger is 6o Vpreferably made of sheet metal suoli tinned or galvanized irri copper, etc.,x and u the eyes le likewise adapted '3d-shaped locking member l0,
16 and body l? of the ser operation who a pipe, cable or flanged beam, a pin bers l ere adjusted ength until their holding` memo of the flange 3, whereu cflanip member is 'thrr et its companion clamp clamp members l enriching a strap L l0 may be and the b( e turned down orer d be clear from Fig. i.
By the means and procedure just disclosed the strep l2 is firmly supported by the iiat sides of the holding ber 8, so 'no tendency to out said strep encountered; Sv
said is el: 'the seine time en curely locked to the member l. ther, :is the str is 'will come le claqnip 5cenel/ei d z clamp metal.
The
eing assembled :is just closed and a plurality of straps thus secure parts at suitable distances along the beam pi such as 2l, of reasonable si sled by thc lower en of the straps 1Q, and holes la: in seid iliade register with holes in the body .portions oi 39? said straps, whereupon locking members i0 placed through the registering holes and the ends 22 turned down over seid members i0 as before, all as Will be clear from Fig. l. lt is an importent feet-ure of my invention that While providin,r for a Wide range ot' edjustability to accommodate pipe of diii'erent convenient means is found in the T- eaded' screw 18,ftheat head 16 of which acts pre# -cisely a's'does one of the holding bars 8.above described, and the rounded body portion 17 of which acts like the cross bar 9 of the locking'member 10, all as will be clear from Figs. 3, 4 and 5. When using a member 10 or the screw 18 as a means of fastening the strap v12 to a support it is convenient to 'em- I ploy thelooling bars or members 10 in a.
large number of Ways, some of which are illustrated in said Figs. 3, e and 5. A
'In Fig. G-an instance is illustrated Wherein neither the clamps 1, nor thescrew 18 is required. In such case the pipe oricable 26 is suspended by passing the upper end 27 of the strap 12 around a smaller` cable, 'pipe or other object 28, and the lower end around said pipeor cable 26 that is to be supported. A convenient hole in. the end 27 is made to. match or register With a convenient hole in the other end of said strap 12, and these two registering holes' are made to register with a third hole they body of said strap. A
:locking member 10` is then ygvassedfthroughl the three holes :turned 90 and the end of the strapbent dawn over .the locking merober10 as before.
It is obvious 'that those skilled in the art may vary the details .o-fconstruction as well as the arrangement of parts without departrom the spirit of my invention, and
therefore I do not wish to be limited to the,
ings adapted to register; a locking member provided with a fiat .holding bar and a cross bar adapted to entery said openings; and a strap member provided with elongated openings adapted to register with said first said`lockng member, substantially as described.
2. In a cable .and pipe hanger the combination of a locking support comprising va flat locking bar; a strap provided With elongated openings, one of which is adapted to be entered by said bar and said strap'adapted to be bent down over said bar; and a locking member comprising an H-shaped piece adapted to enter other elongated open-y ings of said strap and lock two portions of said strap' together, A substantially as de scribed. 1
ylin `testimony whereof I aiiix my signature, in. presence of two witnesses.
