MARTIN KOZLOWS KI,
0F GREEN SBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
SHOE-CLASR To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARTIN KOZLOWSKI, subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, residing at Greensburg, in the county of lVestmoreland and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain and useful Improvements in Shoe-Clasps, of which the following is a specification.
his invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in shoe clasps.
The primary object of the invention is to provide clasps to take the place of shoe buttons employed for securing the flaps of shoes in a closed position. i
A further object is to provide an inexpensive and an efficient substitute for shoe closing devices which is operable without the employment of strings or buttons.
A still further object is to provide a closure means for shoes whereby the overlying flap may be readily locked to the edge of the shoe upper upon superposing the said flap upon the upper with the respective elements of the clasp removably interengaged.
With these general objects in view and others that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and set forth in the appended claims.
In the drawings forming a part of this application and in which like-designating characters refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a shoe provided with the present invention and illustrated as closed. Fig. 2 is an enlarged central longitudinal sectional view through the device attached to a shoe and being shown in its interlocked position. Fig. 3 is a top plan view thereof. Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view taken upon line IV-IV of Fig. 3, and Figs. 5 and 6 are perspective views of the two members forming the device detached and separated from each other.
Referring more in detail to the drawings the shoe 10 is illustrated as having a shoe flap 11 adapted to overlap the adjacent edge 12 of the upper 13, while the present device is adapted to removably secure the flap in closed relation mounted upon the said edge 12.
he invention consists of a block or hook member 14 fixedly mounted upon the edge 12 v Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed December 26,
Patented June 22, 1915. 1914. Serial No. 379,094.
and adapted to be interengaged by a socket or receiving member 15 which is fixedly secured through the flap 11.
It will be of course noted that a plurality of the clasps are provided upon each shoe for holding the same closed, each clasp conslsting of a socket and hook member as herein set forth.
The hook member 14 consists of a triangular shaped block 16 mounted substantially centrally upon a supporting base 17, While the edge 18 of the block at the apex of the triangular block is inwardly inclined as Well as the sides 19 of the block from the outer triangular face 20 of the block to its point of attachment with the base. Perforations 21 are provided through the base 17 and the hook member is secured to the edge 12 by means of stitches 29 taken through the said edge and passing through the perforations 21.
he socket member 15 has the outer appearance of a block substantially triangular in form and with its outer or closed face 22 of the-same area as the hook base 17. A peripheral groove 23 is provided around the socket member into which the edge 24 of an eyelet or button-hole made in the tie is adapted to be firmly seated and retained therein by the stiffening or bracing stitches 25 which are sewed through the flap encompassing the socket member. An open socket 26 is provided in the under side of the socket member 15 being formed complementally with respect to the hook block 16 although being of slightly greater length than the said block for allowing a slight free space as at 27 at the base of the block when the parts are assembled.
With this detailed description of the device, it will be seen that with the socket member secured to the flap and the hook member secured in a corresponding position upon the edge of the upper, an interengagement of the members is readily effected by bringing the socket member over the hook block 16 by first inserting the pointed end 28 of the block into the converging end of the socket and whereby the socket member will be readily seated over the block 16 and the block will be thus wedged within the socket and with the socket member resting upon the base 17 as best illustrated in Figs. 2 and 4. While the width of the space 27 is substantially equal to the amount of inclination of the block edge 18, me said block 16 has its opposite sides 19 and its edge 18 closely fitting within the socket.
While the form of the invention herein shown and described is what is believed to be the preferred embodiment thereof, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the'invention as set forth in the claim.
What I claim as new is A device of the class described, comprising a block member and a socket member, the said block member including a base, a triangular-shaped block mounted upon the base and having two inclined sides meeting in an apex line inwardly inclined to the said base to provide an undercut edge, the said socket member being of substantially the MARTIN KOZLOWSKI.
