Description

PATENTED JULY 25, 1905.
J. ROSENPELD.
HEAD GEAR. APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 3, 1904.
JOSEPH ROSENFELD, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
HEAD-GEAR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 25, 1905.
Application filed September 3, 1904. Serial No. 223,181.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, Josnrn ROSENFELD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, in the county of l/Vayne, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Head Gear; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to knitted or woven head gear for ladies, of the tam-o-shanter type, more expressly designed for a golf-hat;
- and it consists in the construction and aris formed. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the gores cut in the opposite edges of the cylinder to produce the required shape when said out edges are sewed together. Fig. 3 is an enlarged plan view of the cylinder collapsed,
showing the gores cut therein. top plan of the head-gear. Fig. 5 is an inverted plan. Fig. 6 is a transverse section on line 6 6 of Fig. 4.
Referring to the characters of reference, 1 designates the fabric cylinder from which the article is formed, said cylinder being provided at one end with the integral elastic band 2. Formed in the opposite edges of said cylinder are the gores 3 and 4. These gores are arranged staggeringly with respect to the opposite ends of the cylinder, so that they alternate from end to end, the points of the gores in one end of the cylinder lying between the points of the gores in the opposite end, so that said gores with respect to the opposite Fig. 4 is a ends of the cylinder do not stand in transverse alinement. After the cylinder or blank has been cut as. described its ends are folded inwardly in opposite directions on a medial line through the center thereof and its pointed end portions are brought together, so as to cause the edges of the gores to meet, when said edges are stitched together, producing a flat disk-like head-gear whose perimeter describes a plurality of short angles 5. It will be noted that the points of the gores in the opposite ends of the cylinder or blank extend inwardly to the medial line therethrough, so that when the article is folded upon said line after its ends have been closed its contour is described by a series of short straight lines touching said gore-points, thus forming the angular contour described at 5. When the margins of the gores 4 are sewed together, the top 6 of the head-gear is entirely closed and at the center thereof is'provided an ornamental tassel 7 The under portion of the head-gear is provided with a central opening 8, which is circular in form and surrounded by the elastic band 9, whereby suflicient elasticity is provided to allow said opening to stretch over the knot of hair of the wearer to hold the head-gear in place.
Having thus fully set forth my invention, what I claim asnew, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A head -gear comprising a top and an under portion, essentially flat, and lying approximately parallel, said top and under portions connected by an integral margin whose contour describes a series of short right linesjoined at their ends, there being in the under portion of said gear a central opening, and there being around said opening an elastic band integral with the body of the head-gear.
2. A head-gear comprising a top portion and a bottom portion, united by an integral margin, there being in the top portion radial seams extending from the center to said margin, and there being in the bottom portion like radial seams terminating at said margin, the seams in the top portion being spaced between the seams of the bottom portion, and the contour of the head-gear describing short straight lines touching. the terminals of said seams, there being in the center of the bottom portion an opening, and an elastic band surrounding said opening.
3. A head-gear oomprisinga polygonal figand there being in the bottom portion a cenure, having a fiat top portion, and a flat uncler tral opening.
