JACOB AARON HERMAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DRESS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 25 v1913.
Application filed May 17, 1912. Serial No. 697,962.
To all whom 66 may concern:
Be it known that I, JAooB AARON HERMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dresses, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to what is known as a princess dress, in which the waist and skirt portions are made in one piece, and the object of my invention is a construction in which the waist line can be adjusted to fit the wearer without adjusting any other portion of the dress.
The accompanying drawings will serve to illustrate my invention, in which Figure 1 is a rear elevation showing the dress adjusted to a wearer having a small waist; Fig. 2 is a similar View, showing the dress adjusted to a wearer having a large waist, with the back placket flap let down. Fig. 3 is a similar view, with the back placket flap in position. Fig. 4 is a transverse section taken on the line XX of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a transverse section taken on the line X-X of Fig. 3. Fig. 6 is a front elevation of the fastening braid.
In the drawings, the front of the dress 5 is indicated by a single line, which is connected to the sides of the dress 6. The shape of the front and sides of the dress may be as is usual. Connected to the sides at the back, are back portions 7, which are substantially straight along the meeting edge 8 to the waist line, and then curved outwardly and downwardly as shown at 9,toward the side portions 6. Arranged to overlie the opening indicated at 10, is a back placket flap 11, which forms the top of the back of the skirt below the waist line. Arranged at the waist line starting from the sides and carried inward, is a woven braid 12, having openings 13 therein. The meeting edge 8 of the parts 7, is provided at the top and bottom with fastening devices let and 15, which may be hooks. dress is put on, the fastening device 14 at the top is secured. The fastening device 15 at the waist line is then carried along the line of the braid until the dress fits snugly at the waist, and is then secured to the braid. If the waist of the wearer is small, the fastening device is carried to the position substantially as shown in Fig. 1; if large, to the position shown in Fig. 2, and then secured, after which the back placket flap When the of the dress below 11 is turned upward and secured in the braid 12 by means of the hooks 16.
17 indicates in dotted lines, a belt which may be applied at the waist line, secured in front or back.
